The complete shutdown of Primera Air and now WOW Air are examples of the reality that an airline can abruptly fail. Without notice, even a large airline can shutter, leaving some passengers stranded away from home and others responsible for out-of-pocket costs for worthless tickets.

The golden age of air travel is long gone. Glamorous Pan American Airways flight attendants dressed in Evan-Picones’s iconic uniforms no longer click heels at Idlewild Airport (now JFK). The Concorde, which once whisked the fashionable jet set between London and New York in under three hours, now lies dormant beside runway 27L at London Heathrow.

Pan Am is bringing the golden age of travel back once again by adding a second departure of its private jet trip next year retracing the airline’s original transatlantic routes.

Next June, a Boeing 757 will take off from New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), donning the unmistakable logo of Pan American World Airways — "blue meatball" and all.

For many, Pan American World Airways represents our collective nostalgia for the golden age of air travel, when jet-setters were transported around the world in sleek, spacious planes with stylish flight attendants and glamorous meal service.

For decades, Pan Am represented the best in world aviation with glamorous transatlantic flights, chic flight attendants, and elaborate onboard meals. Now, the carrier is bringing back that golden age of travel with an over-the-top private jet trip in 2025. 

For aviation fans drawn to the Jet Age of the 1950s and 1960s, few things crystallize its allure more than Pan Am.

In 1945, Pan American Airways helped usher in a modern era of commercial jet travel by being the first airline to introduce an economy class. And while it made air travel more affordable, the Pan Am name is still synonymous with luxury thanks to the gourmet meals, fashionable flight attendants, and spacious seating featured in its original airplanes. Sadly, the cultural icon shuttered in 1991.
