Canadian rail company Rocky Mountaineer announced a new partnership with The Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC).
Rocky Mountaineer will contribute to the Indigenous Tourism Destination Fund, which was designed to invest in the industry’s continued growth and as a model for developing Indigenous tourism, Indigenous communities and entrepreneurs worldwide.
The ITAC fund is working to ensure Indigenous communities gain long-term sustainable benefits from economic activities taking place on their lands. The move is part of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Call to Action #92.
“Rocky Mountaineer is proud to be a partner of the Indigenous Tourism Destination Fund,” President and CEO David McKenna said. “As a global business with Canadian roots, we recognize and are wholly committed to our responsibility to meaningfully advance reconciliation.”
“Partnering with ITAC on the Fund is an active response to Call to Action #92 and in the shared vision of an economically inclusive tourism industry,” McKenna continued. “With ITAC’s incredible leadership, including on this Fund, Canada will become the world leader in Indigenous tourism by 2030.”
Last year, Rocky Mountaineer named Violet Thumlert the new vice president of global sales. The Canadian-based Thumlert brought 20 years of sales experience to the rail company after spending 12 years with Pursuit Collection in senior sales roles, where she drove high-volume sales.

As The Philippines faces a deforestation crisis so severe it could be deforested by 2025, VisitorsCoverage, a global travel insurance marketplace, is compelled to aid reforestation efforts. The new initiative is an extension of their partnership with One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization that partners with businesses to plant trees all over the world. Climate change is caused in major part by an overabundance of Carbon Dioxide. Trees are the single best way to reduce CO2 because they breathe it in and convert it to oxygen. Without trees, the Philippines will see a rise in deadly heat waves, floods and mudslides. The disappearance of trees has also been linked to soil erosion and contaminated water.
