Royal Caribbean International announced the name of the cruise company’s next Icon Class ship, dubbed Star of the Seas.
Expected to debut during the summer of 2025, the vessel is currently under construction in Turku, Finland, and will feature a lineup of new experiences and Royal Caribbean favorites that will be announced in the coming weeks.
Once completed and delivered, Star of the Seas will become the cruise line’s third ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), combining the cleanest-burning marine fuel available to date with a proven lineup of industry-leading environmental programs on board.
“The idea of combining the best of every type of vacation into one ultimate adventure has created more excitement than ever anticipated, and Star of the Seas will be the next bold answer to the record-breaking consumer demand we’ve seen for nearly a year and counting with Icon of the Seas,” Royal Caribbean President and CEO Michael Bayley said.
Before Star of the Seas debuts for Royal Caribbean, Icon of the Seas will arrive on the cruise industry scene with six record-breaking waterslides, seven pools, the Surfside neighborhood, entertainment stages and over 40 ways to dine and drink.
Last month, Royal Caribbean unveiled details of Hideaway Beach, its first adults-only beach destination, which is situated on the northwest second of Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas – and set to open in January in conjunction with the debut of Icon of the Seas.

Tipping on cruise ships has changed over the years. Cash used to be king, dispensed at a passenger’s whim. But nowadays, many large lines are both cash-free and have automated tipping as part of the daily dues, meaning passengers no longer need to carry around a wad of bills. But, there are caveats. For example, not all crew is included in the general tip—some are actually forbidden from accepting gratuities—and sometimes, currency matters. Below, what you need to know about tipping on a cruise, and how to make sure no onboard tip gets lost in the shuffle.
If you think you knew Britain’s P&O Cruises, think again. The recently-launched ‘Excel class’ ships Iona and Arvia rival some of the world’s biggest cruise ships for activities, while retaining the very British experience that the line is known for.
There are plenty of hotels around the world that the royal family have frequented—but there’s something special about staying in an actual home or estate that the monarchy has vacationed at. It feels more regal; more like leaning into the royal life than checking into a hotel room.
For some time now, Royal Caribbean has been known for operating some of the world’s largest cruise ships, creating vacation resorts at sea. In early 2024, its long-awaited new ship is set to redefine big ship cruising once again.
