As temperatures drop and days become shorter, warming up in an outdoor thermal pool or natural spa is a great way to keep the winter blues at bay. We’d love to hear about places you’ve discovered for a spot of pampering – perhaps you’ve lazed in healing hot springs in Italy or “taken the waters” in geothermal pools in Hungary. Luxury spa hotels are often built close to these natural resources – but we’re looking for suggestions for affordable experiences. Closer to home, for example, there have been a number of mobile saunas appearing on beaches or near rivers to take the sting out of an icy dip. Tell us about your discovery and why it’s a top spot for a winter wellness boost and you could win £200 towards a holiday.
If you have a relevant photo, do send it in – but it’s your words that will be judged for the competition.
Keep your tip to about 100 words
The best tip of the week, chosen by Tom Hall of Lonely Planet, will win a £200 voucher to stay at a Coolstays property – the company has more than 3,000 worldwide. The best tips will appear in the Guardian Travel section and website.

If you’ve ever taken a photo out the airplane window to brag to the folks back home that you just flew over, say, Greenland or the Grand Canyon or a particularly cool-shaped cloud, you may have noticed that there’s always a pesky pinprick of a hole at the bottom of your shot. Before you panic, yes, that hole is very much supposed to be there. Like every other inch of a commercial airplane, the window’s “bleed hole,” as it’s called, is a highly engineered and functional design detail—and it has come a long way over the past century of aviation design history. Long story short: It’s all about pressure.

What could be more romantic than the sight of a pillar-box red train gliding through a pristine Alpine landscape of snow-capped mountains, frosted fir trees and frozen waterfalls? The answer, of course, is having a seat inside the Bernina Express, cradling a cup of hot chocolate and gazing at a winter wonderland through the train’s panoramic windows as it pulls onwards to St Moritz. Or maybe, it’s pretending to be on the Hogwarts Express as you cross Glenfinnan Viaduct on your way from Glasgow to Mallaig. Or, at this time of year, listening to carols on board the Santa Claus Express from Helsinki to Rovaniemi. Whatever your choice, we’d like to hear about your favourite romantic, dramatic and seasonal railway journey in Europe.
The holiday apartment in Alicante, Spain, has been a fixture of Lori Zaino's in-laws' family since her husband's grandparents purchased it in the 1970s. As a baby, it's where her husband took his first steps; he and Zaino have spent their summer holidays there almost every year for the last 16 years – now with a toddler in tow. Their families may look different each time they go, but each visit, year after year, has delivered everything they wanted from a Mediterranean summer holiday: sun, sand and plenty of beach time.

Surrounded by the Canadian Rockies, Purcell and Selkirk Mountains, Golden is at the heart of winter adventure. This Canadian town's sporty reputation can be traced back to the 1980s and the opening of their local ski resort. In the pecking order of North American ski areas, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is considered a walk on the wild side, revered for its black diamond runs and extreme terrain. Outside the resort, Golden is renowned for its heli-skiing, cat-skiing, guided touring and backcountry lodging.
In the ancient artform of Noh, masked figures clad in elaborate robes use songs and chants to weave tales of gods and ghosts, love and loss from Japanese legends. It emerged in the 14th century, making it one of the world’s oldest surviving theater traditions. But despite its long history and influence over other art forms—including Kabuki—Noh remains relatively lesser known.
The happy couple seemed to glow in the soft sunshine of Canandaigua Lake, posing effortlessly in love on the waterfront promenade. They stood in a moment of perfect autumn weather, and the kind of natural beauty that’s made New York’s Finger Lakes a beloved and understated wedding destination—and as much of a treat for guests as it is for the newlyweds.
