Southwest Airlines has announced a brand new sale in honor of the leap year. Travelers can save 30% off of base fares on flights. Here’s how to take advantage of this limited-time offer.
As this sale coincides with the 2024 leap year, the sale is only good from February 27, 2024, through February 29, 2024. Travelers can get up to 30% off base fares on select flights from March 19, 2024, through May 22, 2024, using the promotion code SPLASH when booking their flight(s).
Travelers get 30% off base fares for Tuesday or Wednesday travel. If a traveler is flying on Monday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, they can get 25% off their base fare. And Sunday travelers can get 20% off their base fare.
To take advantage of the offer, enter the code SPLASH in the promo code box when booking flights on Southwest.com or swabiz.com. You’ll know whether your flight is eligible, as the savings will be visible as a strike-through of the original fare.
While this promotion doesn’t include a discount on government taxes and fees, it is still worth considering since Southwest’s government taxes and fees begin at $5.60 per one-way flight, which is still cheaper than many other carriers.
This promotion also has a few blackout dates, and terms and conditions apply. Travel blackout dates include March 23rd and 24th, March 30th and 31st, and April 6th and 7th. Unfortunately, intra-California travel is excluded from this promotion. Orange County (SNA) travel is also excluded.
Seats are limited for Southwest’s latest sale, which includes up to 30% base fares with the promo code SPLASH. Though there are a few terms, conditions, and blackout dates, this sale can still be worthwhile if you have travel plans for March 19, 2024, through May 22, 2024. Southwest also has perks like two free checked bags, no change or cancellation fees, the option to add early bird check-in, and more.

A major winter storm has closed Yosemite National Park and is bringing other parts of the Sierra Nevada region to a full stop. Meteorologists are forecasting some areas of the region, including Lake Tahoe, to receive at least 12 feet of snow, or higher, as the system slowly moves through mountainous regions. Other parts of the region including Mammoth Lakes, the Sierra National Forest, and Yosemite National Park receive severe winter storms and advise the public to stay off the roads. The National Weather Service (NWS) has already placed most of the region on an Avalanche Watch, Avalanche Warning, and Blizzard Warning through at least March 3 at 10:00 am PST. Yosemite National Park officials have already closed the park, and are asking all visitors currently in the park to «leave no later than noon» today, according to the park's website. “A significant winter storm will impact much of the West heading into the weekend, including dangerous, blizzard conditions for the Sierra Nevada,” the NWS shared in an advisory. In response to the upcoming storm, airlines have begun issuing travel waivers to accommodate the rebooking of passengers. United Airlines has issued a travel waiver for several airports in the region including Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) in Aspen, Colorado; Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) near Vail, Colorado; Yampa Valley Regional Airport (HDN) near Steamboat Springs, Colorado; and Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
