The U.S. travel economy could lose nearly $1 billion for every week that the government is shut down, according to new analysis for the U.S. Travel Association. The trade group pointed to a recent Ipsos survey indicating that six in 10 Americans would cancel trips or avoid flying in the event of a shutdown.

United has doubled down on its commitment to The Mile High City. While travelers have had to duke it out for space in airport lounges nationwide, the airline is offering its loyal fliers some breathing room in the form of a new lounge at its Denver International Airport hub—and it’s the largest in the brand’s history.

Denver International Airport (DEN) is now home to the largest United Airlines lounge, clocking in at 35,000 square feet. For context, the United Club that opened last year in Newark Liberty International Airport's (EWR) Terminal C is about 30,000 square feet.

With a target in sight of earning US$4.1 billion, Minister of Tourism, Hon Edmund Bartlett is quite pleased that Jamaica is having its best year ever in visitors arrivals. His enthusiasm was shared as the tourism sector celebrated the return of the island’s major travel tradeshow post-pandemic, JAPEX, with an elaborate opening event at Chukka Outpost on the Sandy Bay coastline Monday night. “As we currently stand, we are about to have the best year in the history of tourism in Jamaica for stopover arrivals, 2023,” he exuded.

Travelers with access to United’s airport lounges will have a whole new experience the next time they go through Denver International Airport (DEN). The airline is expanding its lounge space at the Mile High City lounge hub by more than 100,000 square feet — the size of two football fields — among other infrastructure improvements set to be complete by 2025.
