Low-cost Avelo Airlines continues to expand from its largest base in Connecticut, adding more domestic and international services to connect travelers to popular destinations.
Starting November 14, Avelo will introduce nonstop service between Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) and Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN). The new route will operate twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays on Avelo’s fleet of Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft:
“Avelo is proud to be Connecticut’s airline and continue growth in New Haven with a new route to New Orleans, plus more Puerto Rico flights this winter and increased customer capacity,” Avelo’s CEO, Andrew Levy, said in a statement shared with T+L. “With 27 nonstop destinations to choose from at Tweed, it’s easier than ever for travelers to experience our convenient, affordable, and reliable air service.”
To celebrate the new route, Avelo is offering one-way fares for just $79 on its website or app for a limited time.
Along with the news, the low-cost carrier has announced that it will base eight of its aircraft at New Haven Airport, where it serves more than two dozen cities. Beginning November 8, Avelo will increase its popular twice-weekly service to Puerto Rico, to four flights per week, with the route to be operated on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
The low-cost airline began flying in 2021, operating routes between smaller airports and larger destinations. Avelo has seen particular success from New Haven, as it has been the only carrier that flies to New Haven, serving over 2.4 million travelers. However, that will change later this year when major low-cost competitor Breeze Airways will launch nearly a dozen routes from the regional airport — many of which will directly compete with Avelo.
