Low-cost Icelandic airline Play is going all out for the end of the year by offering a whopping 50 percent off its already low airfare to Europe.
The sale, which must be booked by midnight ET on Dec. 23, is valid on travel in 2024 from January to May and from September to October, the airline shared with Travel + Leisure. The sale is available for flights across Europe from Play’s gateway cities in the United States: Baltimore, Boston, Washington D.C., and New York Stewart International Airport.
“As we look forward to the new year, PLAY is offering a golden opportunity for travelers to seize the day and secure a dream vacation to [Europe’s] most iconic destinations without breaking the bank on airfare to get there,” Birgir Jónsson, Play’s CEO, told T+L. “With our final discount of the year, globetrotting [thrill seekers] can book their next getaway and check destinations… off of their travel bucket list in 2024.”
Travelers who book the sale can head to Iceland, London, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, Dublin, Stockholm, Frankfurt, or Hamburg.
Tickets include all taxes, fees, and carrier charges, but do not include extras like baggage.
Play, which operates a «hub-and-spoke” model in which all flights connect through Reykjavik before heading on to other destinations or back to the U.S., is a low-cost airline and charges for everything from checked bags to food and drinks. For tickets that don’t include a bag, the airline charges $67 for a carry-on bag with priority boarding and charges $78 for a small checked bag up to 44 pounds.
The airline also charges for on board services, including water, and offers a selection of snacks like Icelandic chocolate and sandwiches.
Play first started operating flights in Europe in 2021 before launching its first flight from the U.S. in 2022.
