The response to the Travel ALLIES Society’s third annual Elevate Leaders in Travel Symposium – which was held at the new Margaritaville Island Reserve in Riviera Maya and hosted top advisors and agency partners – was decidedly positive, garnering praise from both groups.
“This is the event I didn’t know I needed. The Travel ALLIES Society has found a way to take the busiest of people and have them take time to slow down,” said one of the event’s first-time attendees, Mary Grace, CEO of Mad Hatter Adventures.
“This conference tackles difficult topics with grace and ease. Without hesitation, you feel yourself drawn in to share, be authentic and be vulnerable. I was at a crossroads in my career and Elevate made me feel inspired and empowered.”
Another first-time attendee, Cynthia Cunningham, Outrigger’s global account director, expressed similar sentiments. “The conference was a remarkable experience that showcased the best of leadership and collaboration,” she said. “It was an excellent platform to exchange insights, recognize achievements and foster leadership skills. I appreciate the efforts of everyone who made this event a success.”
“The goal of this event was to provide leaders with the knowledge, skills and resources they need to be more effective,” Travel ALLIES Society said. “Beyond this goal, this event was to also instill the mission of the Travel ALLIES Society, which is to grow the leader and elevate the industry.”
The event, which was emceed by KHM Vice President William Coyle, included a wide range of keynote speakers who delivered messages in keeping with the event’s goals.
As a case in point, Nick Tasler, an acclaimed thought leader and author, presented an address entitled “Change, Grow, Win,” focusing on strategies dealing with the complexities of today’s ever-changing travel industry.
Grammy Award-winning songwriter Jimmy Yeary’s keynote address about “creating connection through storytelling was powerful and engaging and showcased the importance for leaders to connect with their teams, their clients and their vendor partners,” the Society said.
“CMA award-winning singer Sonya Isaac’s performed several times throughout this event and showcased how important it is to understand the narrative that leaders send to others,” the Society said.
The event also included speakers from such well-known industry executives as Nexion President Jackie Friedman and Unique Vacations Executive Vice President Gary Sadler.
In all, more than 100 suppliers and travel advisors attended the event.

Earlier this year, I was browsing Amazon for a few last-minute carry-on essentials when I saw the Airplane Pockets tray table cover pop up as a suggested item. I had never seen such a thing, and my first thought was that it's actually pretty genius. Would this mean I never have to touch or eat off a dirty airplane tray table ever again? I turned to my fellow Condé Nast Traveler editors to see if I'd been missing out on the tray table cover trend. In a room full of frequent fliers, no one had seen or used anything like this before, but our editors were equally intrigued. I was sold. I purchased this $30 Amazon travel essential, and now, a few flights later, I will never fly without it again.
