Heading into the holiday season/beginning of the new year, it’s a natural inclination to do a wellness check, system/mind reset. Sedona, Arizona with its rugged red rock canyons containing what are generally regarded as swirling energy/healing vortexes is an obvious place to seek that renewal. And there are two retreats, one newly opened, the other extensively redone to settle into for that result.
20 year old Mii amo, located in Boynton Canyon, one of the acknowledged vortex centers, emerged from a $40 million, two year renovation in February that expanded its space by 40% to 42,000 square feet and added a range of new facilities. Among them: a new 3300 square foot movement and fitness wing with views out to the new Sensory Garden; new fitness classes and instructors; a signature restaurant Hummingbird providing healthy meals from local sources; a dedicated consultation wing with a stunning view of Boynton Canyon and a private suite of spaces for guests in tailored Journeys. (Guests of Enchantment Resort next door are allowed in to experience certain treatments but not complete Journeys and not this space.)
Treatment rooms also expanded to 26, the 16 casita guest rooms and suites were renovated with three new buildings adding seven more containing accommodations that feature fireplaces, private outdoor spaces and soaking tubs with views of Boynton Canyon. And since this is Sedona/crystal country, the Crystal Grotto was also refreshed and redecorated.
Within these new facilities, wellness journeys are constructed in three, four, seven or ten night itineraries including choices from an expanded list of treatments ranging widely from the usual body and face treatments to very Sedona procedures such as energy clearing, sound resonance therapy and celestial manifesting. From December 1 to February 28, the spa is also offering a Winter Celestial Cycle with 75 minute treatments tailored to the colors, elements and natural flow of this season. Among them: a Centered-in-Wisdom Facial in which feet are treated along with one’s face for increased regeneration, Going within Meditation, a guided meditation to discover one’s inner fire and a Reflection Massage involving stones and grass to inspire self-reflection.
Seven miles away, the just opened Velvet Spa at Ambiente™ Sedona also takes advantage of its red rocks location with treatments that include those surroundings in the procedures from rooftop massages with canyon views to the Dark Sky Lounge, an interactive sound lounge under the open night sky to accelerate muscle recovery through sound and vibration. Just lounging in one of the 40 glassed in guest room cubes that seem to be floating above the rocks has some benefit on its own.
