The menu at both the Halifax and Dartmouth locations focuses on organic and local ingredients that prove that clean eating can still be flavorful and satisfying.

Heartwood is another one of those vegan-friendly restaurants that have been around for years—and while the restaurant has moved from its original location on Quinpool, Heartwood by the Sea is just as delicious as its predecessor. The new location in the Halifax Salt Yard is weather permitting and includes a casual (but delicious) menu with items like the TLT (that’s tofu lettuce tomato) sandwich and the veggie curry burger.
Wild Leek on Windsor Street offers a slightly different approach to plant-based dining; it’s also a gluten-free bakery and it just so happens to have an all-day breakfast menu. It’s hard enough finding vegetarian options at your average breakfast joint—so having the option for all-day breakfast is a major perk. Be sure to try the Hangover Bun; the perfectly greasy breakfast sandwich comes with seitan bacon, a chickpea-based egg patty, and a hashbrown topped with lettuce and tomato and served on a toasted housemade bun.
Real Fake Meats is Halifax’s first and only vegan butcher. Here you’ll find different cuts of ‘meat’ available to purchase—but there’s also a full menu if you’d prefer to have something prepared in-house for takeaway.
