I'm an American living in southern Spain with my family. Raising kids far away from home is harder than I expected.

Moving abroad was freeing at first, as if I'd finally gotten out of a relationship that just wasn't working.

‘The star was the teriyaki oxtail doughnut’: readers’ favourite restaurants and tapas bars in Spain

If I had to recommend one place to eat tapas in Spain, it’s Bar Poë in Granada, not only for the food, but for the atmosphere. It’s always bustling (come early to guarantee a seat) with a local and international crowd. Run by a friendly husband-and-wife duo, every drink comes with a free dish, and, unusually, you can choose your tapa. International and big on flavour, the menu includes Portuguese piri piri dishes, salt cod, curries and more. Jason Rich

A Long Walk on a Small(ish) Island

Never underestimate the difficulty of a flat trail over a great distance. After my first five-hour day following the Island Walk, a new 435-mile trail that rings Prince Edward Island, in Canada’s smallest province, I limped into Points East Coastal Inn in bayside St. Peter’s Bay with a blister cooking on my right sole and a paralyzing need to rest barefoot until checkout the next morning.

Unforgettable Rioja Vineyard Stays: Explore Spain’s Top Wineries

The more than 600 vineyards, sprawled across the picturesque green rolling hills of La Rioja, Navarra and Basque Country in northern Spain, are not as visited as those of California and France but certainly should be. The World’s Best Vineyards awards were held in Rioja last month and a Rioja vineyard, Marqués de Riscal, took second place. The full-bodied reds and elegant whites are reason alone to visit Rioja and wine tastings are an essential part of the wine tourism experience. From the bold and fruity flavors of Crianzas to the more complex profiles of aged Gran Reservas, the tastings offer a delightful journey through the diverse region.

I traveled to Spain with my 3 young kids, and our airline lost all our suitcases. Having AirTags helped me get them back in time.

My family of five recently traveled to Spain for two weeks. Because we live near a small airport, we had to connect flights from the US to Europe. Having read so many nightmare stories about lost luggage, and especially because we were traveling with our three kids, all under 6, I chose to buy AirTags for all of our suitcases just in case.
