When I moved to Spain, I knew that the country’s cuisine was vast and varied by region.

The more than 600 vineyards, sprawled across the picturesque green rolling hills of La Rioja, Navarra and Basque Country in northern Spain, are not as visited as those of California and France but certainly should be. The World’s Best Vineyards awards were held in Rioja last month and a Rioja vineyard, Marqués de Riscal, took second place. The full-bodied reds and elegant whites are reason alone to visit Rioja and wine tastings are an essential part of the wine tourism experience. From the bold and fruity flavors of Crianzas to the more complex profiles of aged Gran Reservas, the tastings offer a delightful journey through the diverse region.
Rioja offers wine-focused activities that go beyond the tasting room. There’s the incredible Vivanco wine museum in Briones for starters that was inaugurated in 2004 by King Juan Carlos I. Six galleries feature wine-related art from Roman mosaics and paintings by Warhol and Lichtenstein plus a vast collection of memorabilia, wine presses and artefacts, covering 8,000 years of wine history. Visitors to Rioja can participate in harvest events, where they can join the grape-picking process, special wine pairing dinners are offered at many vineyards and you can stay on site at several too. Charming Haro and the region’s capital, Logroño, with their pretty cobbled streets and architecture, markets and local gastronomy, are among the many inviting towns to visit.
The Rioja region has a range of accommodations, including luxury hotels, boutique winery hotels and charming bed and breakfasts. If you can manage to secure a room, Hotel Marqués de Riscal in the vineyard of the same name, was designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry. Guests will recognise the futuristic architecture style similar to his Guggenheim museum in nearby Bilbao. The hotel's avant-garde architecture is a stunning contrast to the traditional wine region backdrop and along with chic guest rooms, there’s a Michelin-starred restaurant and spa facilities.
Hotel Eguren Ugarte, in Páganos, is a family-run hotel with loads of traditional charm. Situated on the Eguren Ugarte winery estate, guests can experience the winemaking process up close, explore the vast underground cellars and of course enjoy wine tastings. Dine in the restaurant serving local cuisine while taking in panoramic views of the vineyards and the Sierra de Cantabria mountains.

Moving abroad was freeing at first, as if I'd finally gotten out of a relationship that just wasn't working.
The World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism will return to Donostia-San Sebastian in Spain (5-7 October) to focus on how tourism can foster rural development, build economic resilience, and preserve cultural heritage.
A Swiss plane arrived in Bilbao, Spain on Saturday without a single piece of checked luggage on board.
If I had to recommend one place to eat tapas in Spain, it’s Bar Poë in Granada, not only for the food, but for the atmosphere. It’s always bustling (come early to guarantee a seat) with a local and international crowd. Run by a friendly husband-and-wife duo, every drink comes with a free dish, and, unusually, you can choose your tapa. International and big on flavour, the menu includes Portuguese piri piri dishes, salt cod, curries and more. Jason Rich

Gleaming gypsum crystal dunes roll as far as the eye can see at White Sands National Park. With waves towering up to 60 feet tall, the composition of the Northern Chihuahuan Desert landscape is constantly changing due to wind and weather patterns. Hardy plants like yuccas, grasses, and shrubs have evolved to survive in the shifting sands, adding texture to the spectacle of shapes and shadows that define the scenery.
A passenger recorded the trail of feces that was left after a person had a bout of explosive diarrhea on a rerouted Delta Air Lines flight, and it's now making the rounds on social media.
Thousands of people every year deal with the nightmare of having their valuables stolen while abroad. Tourists are often targeted as they are less aware of their surroundings.
Imagine thousands of years of wine-making tradition, picturesque mountains and a tight-knit culture where family comes first, and you’ll start to get the flavour of Cypriot wineries.
My family of five recently traveled to Spain for two weeks. Because we live near a small airport, we had to connect flights from the US to Europe. Having read so many nightmare stories about lost luggage, and especially because we were traveling with our three kids, all under 6, I chose to buy AirTags for all of our suitcases just in case.
After a summer of travel plagued by extreme heat, disruption and unpredictable weather, many of us are looking to holiday outside of the peak season.
