Visitors to China can have an easier time getting into the continent beginning January 01, 2024. The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the United States of America released a notice at the end of 2023 stating that the tourist visa (L-Visa) application documents will be simplified. Here’s what travelers should know.
To help U.S. travelers wanting to visit China, the Chinese Embassy and Consulates-General in the United States are working together to simplify the documentation process required for a tourist visa, also known as the L-Visa.
U.S. travelers will no longer have to provide proof of the following in order to get an L-Visa:
The above applies to applicants within the United States. Additionally, the release notes that “since visa applicants are processed on a case-by-case basis, please refer to the Chinese Embassy and Consulates-General in the United States for specifics.”
U.S. travelers passing through China can stay without a visa for up to 6 days, though they do need to meet policy requirements.
Although China still requires travelers from select countries, including the United States, to obtain a tourist visa, the simplification of the application process can help visitors. By requiring less proof of documentation, visitors may be able to travel more comfortably.
