My first travel rewards credit card was the Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card. I applied for it in 2018 and immediately used it to book a trip to Seattle from my home airport, Raleigh-Durham International. A few years later, I upgraded to the SkyMiles Platinum to earn a little bit more per dollar spent, take advantage of an annual companion certificate, and access the SkyClub lounge at a special pay-per-visit rate.
However, in late 2023, Delta Air Lines announced changes to how you earn status and implemented further restrictions on who can enter the SkyClub. SkyMiles Platinum cardholders can no longer pay to enter the lounge, which was a big selling point to justify the annual fee. After that announcement, I downgraded my card to the SkyMiles Gold, which still has plenty of benefits.
Those wouldn't be the last adjustments to the cards, though: American Express just announced a couple of major changes to their suite of co-branded credit cards with Delta, including the SkyMiles Gold. These changes are mainly good news and will be appreciated by many Delta loyalists, including myself. Read on for what you need to know when considering the Gold card.
I find the in-flight experience on Delta Air Lines to be one of the best on both domestic and international routes. That’s why Delta is regularly voted as the best airline in the US. It’s no secret that I am a Delta loyalist, so having a co-branded credit card just makes sense. This is not to say that the SkyMiles Gold is the only card in my wallet, nor should be the only one in yours. Other cards offer more comprehensive insurance and travel protections, more points per dollar on bonus category spending, and additional travel perks.
This card pairs well with a premium travel credit card, like the Capital One Venture X, which gives you lounge access through Priority Pass, an annual travel credit, and bonus points when you book through Capital One Travel. There are other entry-level cards, like the Citi Premier or the Chase Sapphire Preferred, that can pair nicely with the SkyMiles Gold card to fill in some of the gaps in earning potential, too.

Treating your friends and family members to a nice meal is a great way to connect and share community. It's also a great way to earn bonus rewards that you can later use for travel.
Flyers have another way to relax before their flight when visiting Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which also happens to be the busiest airport in the world. On February 14, 2024, American Express opened a Centurion Lounge at ATL. The new lounge is the largest Centurion Lounge to date.
American Express has just upped the stakes in the battle for high-spending travelers. The company opened its latest airport lounge on Wednesday, and it is no ordinary affair.
American Airlines has delayed its return to Israel until at least October. The carrier confirmed to Skift that operations to and from Tel Aviv will remain suspended until October 26, 2024.
On Feb. 1, Delta Air Lines and American Express announced some big changes, including a total reimagining of their cobranded credit card portfolio — which hasn't had a major update since January 2020.
2023 saw major upgrades and additions to the Delta Sky Club network, with five new Clubs and two expanded or reopened locations. And 2024 is shaping up to be even more eventful, as Delta’s long-awaited premium lounge experience brings a new, heightened level of service and hospitality to customers in JFK, LAX and BOS.
