As of Feb. 12, Washington, D.C.'s Dulles International Airport (IAD) is the first airport to offer Global Entry interviews for travelers departing the U.S. for international flights, the airport confirmed to TPG.
"The office opened today for interviews starting at noon," an airport spokesperson said via email, marking the first airport where people can interview for Global Entry both upon arrival and now upon departure.
Though this service has been reserved for candidates returning to the U.S. until now, conditionally approved applicants now have the option to complete the final step of the application process ahead of their international flight at IAD.
Enrollment on departure will be available daily at IAD's Gate B41 in Terminal B from noon to 8 p.m. To qualify, travelers must have been conditionally approved for Global Entry and be at the final step of the application process: completing an in-person interview.
Though this feature will only be available at IAD for now, travelers can continue participating in Enrollment on Arrival, which allows conditionally approved applicants to complete the Global Entry enrollment interview as part of the immigration process at the airport upon returning back to the U.S. from abroad.
Enrollment on Arrival is currently available at more than 60 airports globally. For both options, you'll need a U.S. passport and any other applicable proof of residency documents, such as mortgage statements or rent stubs.
Both services are particularly helpful for travelers in providing a convenient interview option, especially when interview appointments remain hard to secure.
Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection program that provides expedited arrival into the U.S. for preapproved, low-risk travelers via automatic kiosks at 75-plus airports across the U.S. and select pre-clearance locations abroad. When entering the U.S. at participating airports, Global Entry members present their machine-readable passport or U.S. permanent resident card, place their fingers on the scanner for fingerprint verification and complete a customs declaration. Facial recognition makes the process even quicker at some airports, eliminating the need to show a printed receipt to an officer before exiting the baggage claim area.
A Global Entry membership is valid for five years and includes a TSA PreCheck membership. Before you apply, remember that there are a whole host of credit cards that reimburse cardholders for the $100 application fee associated with Global Entry.

Airport lounge access is one of my favorite credit card benefits. You can get free food and drinks while waiting in a more comfortable area before your flight. However, some lounges aren't great. And their food offerings may be little more than a pack of Oreos.
Once you’re enrolled in the customs-expediting service Global Entry, it’s great. But travelers have long bemoaned how long it takes to nab a coveted Global Entry interview—applicants commonly have to wait weeks or months to wrap up the process (the current processing time is estimated to be four to six months).
