Not long after my 48th birthday, in August 1999, my husband Barry invited me out for a margarita at Compadre's, a Mexican restaurant near our home in Palo Alto. It turned out he had an agenda.

Connecting Travel Marketplace, formerly Global Travel Marketplace, is set to expand with new editions in the UK and Italy, enhancing its role in connecting high-spend travel industry professionals. This evolution aligns with Jacobs Media’s 15th anniversary and aims to boost global travel business opportunities.
International travel trade event Global Travel Marketplace has unveiled plans to expand its portfolio as it marks a pivotal point in its evolution under the new brand Connecting Travel Marketplace.
The event forms part of the market-leading portfolio of Jacobs Media, the global voice and leading partner for the travel and hospitality industries, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.
The new-look Connecting Travel Marketplace will continue the successful format established by Global Travel Marketplace with a third UK edition from 15-18 September, before an inaugural European edition is hosted in Lake Como, Italy from 17-20 November. Each show is expected to welcome and connect more than 200 delegates.
Designed specifically for high-spend, mid-market frontline travel sellers and independent travel agents, Connecting Travel Marketplace’s estimated combined buyer power is expected to be £77.2 million, up from £51.4 million last year.
Invitations are being extended to leisure buyers from specific target markets, offering the chance to meet with hotels, boutique properties, destinations, experience providers and destination management companies from around the world.
Unlike other mainstream trade shows, Connecting Travel Marketplace will utilise an innovative approach to forging enduring business relationships pioneered by Jacobs Media’s international B2B events specialist Connections, with personalised one-to-one appointments lasting 30-40 minutes combined with shared, memorable experiences to fast-track the trust needed to do business.
Alongside two days of pre-scheduled meetings, the agenda also features a pre-event welcome reception, additional networking opportunities and an educational seminar.
Greg Reeves, managing director, international at Jacobs Media, said: “The relaunch of Connecting Travel Marketplace is testament to the resounding demand for a premier international trade event tailored to decision-makers of high-spending, mid-market travel agencies, as well as reputable, independent consultants.
“The enthusiastic response from our industry network reaffirms this need, and we are thrilled to expand our show’s reach to various regions worldwide, beginning with the UK and Europe in 2024.”
