Hilton on Monday had a ribbon-cutting and grand opening for the first property in its Spark by Hilton brand, which it announced in January. The property is in Mystic, Connecticut.
The Spark by Hilton brand promises an easy-to-maintain design for developers. In this case, developer DHStone Mystic converted a Days Inn by Wyndham Hotels & Resorts into the new design with the help of a $7.84 million acquisition and construction loan, New England Real Estate Journal reported.
The brand offers “premium economy” amenities for guests, such as free continental breakfast, free Wi-Fi, free parking, a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, air conditioning, and a 24-hour front desk.

“Fire Island is a very special place, especially for queer people,” Jimi Urquiaga, a.k.a. Missleidy Rodriguez, told me. While that might seem like a statement of the obvious, Urquiaga has experienced the island from an atypical vantage point: for the past two summers, they've been packing up their life in New York City as a costume designer, producer, creative director and drag queen to come work at the Pines’ plant shop, CAMP. Urquiaga called me on their break, sitting behind a desk at the plant shop, with a view overlooking the bay. “So that’s the fantasy,” they said with a laugh after describing their surroundings.
I'm a historically scrappy traveler. Whether flying with a budget airline or booking a seat at the back of the plane, I'll do just about anything to shave a few dollars off my travel plans.

There’s a lot to be excited about in the food world right now, with plenty of anticipated restaurant openings to keep track of. This fall, some of our favorite chefs are expanding to new cities, transitioning pop-ups into permanent spaces, and reviving the restaurants that their fans were sad to see go. In Chicago, a decorated chef will pay tribute to his roots at a new spot serving both traditional and reimagined Ukrainian dishes. And chef Sam Fore, the self-described “Sri Lankan snack queen,” will launch the long-awaited brick-and-mortar location of Tuk Tuk Snack Shop, her pop-up restaurant in Lexington, KY. The menu will highlight the commonalities between Sri Lankan cuisine and the flavors of the American South.

The 37th America’s Cup sailing race will take place in the year 2024 in Barcelona, Spain. However, the first of three preliminary regattas before that event has kicked off in Vilanova i la Geltrú, a coastal city some 30 coastal miles [50 kilometers] south of Barcelona. Out of six racing teams from New Zealand, the U.S., U.K, Switzerland, Italy and France, the French Orient Express team cooly breezed into a win on the first competitive event on a hot 85 degree [29 Celsius] Saturday mid-afternoon.
