The Tropicana Los Cabos reopens in August 2024, offering a boutique hotel experience with contemporary amenities in San Jose del Cabo’s arts district.
SAN JOSE DEL CABO, BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR, MEXICO – The freshly renovated and relaunched Tropicana Los Cabos will open its doors this August 2024 in San Jose del Cabo. Nestled in the heart of this charming arts district, Tropicana Los Cabos, a Mexican hacienda-inspired boutique hotel, is just steps away from art galleries, swimmable beaches, biking routes and the San Jose del Cabo Harbor. The 70-room property is also conveniently located within 20 minutes of Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) with direct flights from major cities across the U.S. and Mexico.
Originally built in 1956 as Tropicana Inn, the hotel and restaurant were once operated by a well-known local family and served as a landmark social connection point for Josefinos and visitors alike. Today, the new Tropicana Los Cabos seeks to retain that same spirit of hospitality and community while providing contemporary amenities and serving as a meeting place for both locals and modern travelers seeking relaxation, authentic cultural connection, and a wide spectrum of outdoor adventure.
“We are so pleased to introduce our new version of the classic Tropicana experience,” said Tropicana Los Cabos general manager Manuel Sillas. “Tropicana Los Cabos sits in the very heart of San Jose del Cabo and upon opening will offer guests a home base for exploring this vibrant, walkable destination. With so many options for grand hotels and beach resorts in Los Cabos at large, we are proud to offer something different – intimacy and community, along with exemplary hospitality.”

The revamped Tropicana, Cocina de las Californias will serve a “farm-to-table” menu that pays homage to the land, locals and pioneers of the Californias, while the Baja Mediterranean-inspired El Patio will offer traditional dishes and recipes that reflect San Jose del Cabo’s Hispanic heritage.
Additionally, Tropicana Los Cabos will feature a wellness center offering a full menu of services including Tibetan bowl singing, guided meditation, massage services, and classes on the outdoor yoga terrace, along with a game room including a pool table and boardgames, an outdoor hot tub and heated pool, and complimentary bicycles to ride around town. Other unique guest services will include bespoke excursions and activities, such as downtown e-bike and walking tours, eco-adventure tours including boating and whale watching, Latin dance classes, and hands-on culinary workshops that will teach guests

Last September, my husband and I flew to New York City and headed to the Ridge Hotel on the Lower East Side to spend a few days before a cruise. Since the Ridge had “contactless check-in,” we had received two codes to get in the front entrance and our room. When we arrived after midnight, we had no problems getting into the hotel with the first code. But we couldn’t get into our room with the second code. There were no staff on duty, so we called the hotel’s number. But the woman who answered could not help and subsequent calls went to voice mail. I also sent messages through the Booking.com app, the online travel agency with which we made the reservation, but the staff there couldn’t solve the issue. So we spent the night in the hotel’s breakfast room, where the restroom also required a code that we did not have. The next morning, the hotel staff sent an apologetic message with the right code, and promised us a refund for that night, about $215. But we never got the money, even though the hotel insists they returned it to Booking. Can you help?
