A new study commissioned by hotel chain Premier Inn has revealed the “most beautiful” cities to visit in the fall. The study used eye-tracking technology to record the average length of time the participants spent looking at the image of each destination to find which cities around the world were considered the most eye-catching during the autumn months.
The following cities were considered the top ten most eye-catching cities to visit in the fall—and some of the options on the list will surprise you.
The study revealed that Bath was the most popular city—not just in the UK but around the world—with participants lingering on images of the city for an average 1.74 seconds. The Georgian city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to its Roman roots and stunning landscapes and is also popular into the winter thanks to its famous Christmas market.
Chicago earned the second spot with an average fixation time of 1.66 seconds (merely 0.08 seconds away from the top spot). The Midwestern city is one of just two cities in the United States to make the list.
The great thing about visiting Cape Town in the fall is that their autumnal months fall from March to May—which gives travelers from the northern hemisphere a chance to escape from the gloomy spring months. Cape Town sees fewer travelers at this time of the year which makes it easy to book into its famous vineyards.
It’s easy to see why Boston ranks high in terms of the best cities to visit in the fall. It’s charming year-round but the crisp chill in the air and crunchy orange and red leaves make travelers feel like they’re set in a film.
Let’s be honest: Florence is beautiful at any time of the year. Travelers lingered on the images for 1.36 seconds while dreaming up visiting the region and taking part in the harvest season at the centuries-old Italian vineyards.
Ljubljana—the capital of Slovenia—tied with Florence with a lingering time of 1.36 seconds. The city is famous for its incredible morning fog which makes travelers feel as if they’re living in an Edgar Allan Poe story. Don’t worry though: the fog burns off by the afternoon which gives way to beautiful leaf-peeping opportunities.
The second Italian city to make the list, Rome had an average linger time of 1.32 seconds. The city and its ancient architecture are stunning year round but autumn is a particularly good time to visit as there are fewer tourists and the chill in the air makes walking around more pleasant.
Tokyo might be popular in the springtime for its infamous cherry blossom season—but it’s also well worth visiting come autumn. The stunning landscape is set ablaze with changing leaves and the Halloween season in the city is also a sight to be seen.

No matter where you live, it's important to consider how different factors in your location will impact your safety — whether at your workplace, through the weather in your region, or due to local crime rates.
The Cycladic island of Ios is a rocky, mountainous environment of winding roads sometimes blocked by herds of bleating goats and sleepy villages hugging cerulean coastlines. In the 1960s, backpackers discovered the nearly untouched island and it became known as a hippie haven, hosting all-night beach parties, with a handful of cheap bars operating in the Chora (main town). A few decades later, nearby Santorini and Mykonos began to outshine their neighbor, attracting hordes of tourists each summer and investing in new developments. Meanwhile, Ios only got electricity across the entire island in the 1970s and most residents here are goat herders or farmers. Today, Mykonos has taken the nightlife crown and both it and Santorini have become severely over-touristed. Ios on the other hand, remains a quiet, mostly undeveloped paradise.
In June 2021, I left the US and boarded a plane to Europe to look for a place to call home.
If you're looking for beach-vacation bliss, the Bahamas is the place to go.
The strong earthquake swarm that started this week near Grindavik on Iceland's Reykjanes peninsula is caused by magma forming a dike - a vertical fissure-shaped intrusion at shallow depth, which allows the magma to rise and get closer to an eruption. This now threatens one of Iceland's most important tourism regions and is home to the iconic Blue Lagoon Resort. Civil Protection just declared a Level Orange emergency, and residents of Grindavík were told to evacuate.
When it comes to bar innovation and cocktail creativity, the world looks to New York. This is a city whose venues feature prominently on the World’s 50 Best Bars list year after year. There’s a whole mix of styles and approaches here, from small-cover bars hidden down backstreets to boundary-pushing establishments so popular, people queue round the block to get in.
Canada, our friendly northern neighbor, boasts extraordinarily diverse geography, from tall Rocky Mountain peaks to expansive flat prairie land and seaside communities on both coasts. With a smaller national population than that of California, it's perhaps unsurprising that Canada is also full of charming small towns and welcoming rural communities worth planning a trip around. You’ll find salty little enclaves, graced by orcas and world-class surfers in British Columbia; tiny mountain towns with Gold Rush history in the Yukon’s Grizzly country; and, of course, flannel-filled hubs for outdoors lovers who want to bike and hike in the country’s dramatic national parks. What links them together, though, is that small town spirit, and undeniable charm. (Don’t be surprised if your small town trip warrants big time vacation days—please like these are never easy to leave.)
Becoming a birder is easy – all you have to do is step outside.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the vacation rental hemisphere. As travelers prepare for the busy holiday travel season, Airbnb released its annual winter travel trends, destinations, and unique stays that travelers are searching for and booking this upcoming season.
Think of Orlando and the top places to visit, and Disney World or Universal Islands of Adventure are more than likely the first tourist spots that spring to mind. Yes, theme parks are intrinsically linked to the city but, while it is home to some 12 high-adrenalin theme parks, that’s not all there is to the Florida destination. From charming cities to tranquil lake adventures, here are a few of the destination’s hidden gems to take you off the beaten track.
Earlier this year, I decided to move back to the US after four years of living in the UK, where I spent most of my life.
