Summer travel 2024, with its record-breaking crowds, is set to reach a fever pitch over Labor Day Weekend. The busiest summer season in recent history is set to end with a bang, as a historic number of people are expected to take to the roads and skies.

The Labor Day holiday travel period is approaching fast, and AAA booking data suggests cruising to Alaska and flying to Seattle are two of the most popular options for 2024.

In a summer that has so far seen record-breaking crowds traveling over holidays, the week of the Fourth of July 2024 won’t be any exception. In fact, this Independence Day is projected to be one of the busiest travel days in US history.

The American Automobile Association (AAA) is forecasting that 38.4 million people will be hitting the road for Memorial Day Weekend—up 4% from last year and the highest number since the Triple-A started tracking the holiday’s traffic in 2000.

A forecast from AAA estimates Memorial Day weekend travel will be up from last year with boosts in travelers across modes of transportation — but still shy of the all-time record set in 2005.

It’s been a boom year for travel thus far (to put it mildly) and the upcoming Labor Day weekend period will prove no exception. If heading out of town to celebrate this September holiday, which traditionally marks the unofficial end of summer, prepare yourself for more intense crowding and congestion than last year.
