Oh la la! Toronto is in for a touch of Parisian elegance on Thursday, February 29, 2024. Frenchy, a sophisticated yet welcoming bar and brasserie, is situated conveniently in the heart of downtown within the main lobby level of the recently renovated Hilton Toronto. Crafted to be the focal point of the property, Frenchy exudes an atmosphere that seamlessly combines sophistication with a touch of cheekiness. With its effortless indulgence and uncomplicated approach, the eatery promises to be an unforgettable destination.
The Design
Overseen by award-winning studio DesignAgency in conjunction with Barney River, Frenchy features deep banquettes and armchairs that are ideal for celebratory gatherings or hushed conversations. A palette of rich burgundy hues, wood, marble, and florals creates a sense of elegance. The majestic private dining room highlights Frenchy's wine collection and is the ideal space for meetings, wine tastings and celebratory occasions.
“We envisioned Frenchy as a nexus that would draw visitors and locals to gather and sit comfortably side-by-side,” says Matt Davis, DesignAgency Founding Partner. “The unique result combines the energy of a sidewalk café with the polish of a fine dining experience.”
Frenchy also features a European-inspired lobby bar and lounge, complete with a sweeping oval-shaped bar. As the epicentre of enjoyment, the bar is a top destination for those looking for a taste of European flare. Guests can sip on hand-crafted signature cocktails, Champagne, and a large selection of European wines while enjoying fare, such as crispy olives, escargot vol-au-vent, truffle brie gougères and croque monsieur sliders.
“We wanted to make this hotel and its food and beverage offerings the best they could be so Frenchy would naturally integrate into Toronto’s culinary and hospitality landscape,” says Salim Manji, President of Barney River. “The bar, lounge and restaurant all interplay to create a bustling room reminiscent of the best social havens around the world.”
What’s On the Menu
The menu at Frenchy is classic French with a focus on rich flavour. Simple, delicious, and traditional dishes are created by the culinary team, which is led by Executive Chef Aaron Chen. “When designing the menus, we wanted to ensure that no matter what guests opt to order, they enjoy a culinary experience that perfectly blends comfort with class,” says Aaron. “Every bite at Frenchy should celebrate the essence of French gastronomy with a touch of relaxed elegance.”
Frenchy will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The impressive dinner menu features many French favorites, including oysters and escargots, to mouthwatering mains like a classic bouillabaisse, côte de boeuf for two, gnocchi

Cruise travel has never been more popular as the industry is expected to achieve record levels in 2024.
As I dangle my feet in the cool, clear waters off northern Corsica, I have only a yacht moored 100 metres away for company. Sailing would have been the more glamorous way to arrive at the port of Centuri, a small fishing harbour on the far north-west tip of Cap Corse, but instead I have the thrill of the drive.
This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Amy Beihl, a 32-year-old working in digital consulting, about her decision to buy a 1/21st stake in five European vacation properties in 2022 through August Collections instead of purchasing her own home in the US. The conversation was edited for length and clarity.
Living in the tumult of the city, who among us hasn’t wondered if we’re really marching to the beat of our own drum?
The joy of train travel is often about the journey – unless you're at these revamped rail stations, where the destination is the prize.

MADEIRA IS, FOR THE 10TH TIME, THE BEST ISLAND DESTINATION IN EUROPE. PORTO SANTO IS THE BEST BEACH DESTINATION AND THE MADEIRA PROMOTION ASSOCIATION THE BEST TOURISM ENTITY. Funchal will host two international World Travel Awards galas in November this year.
What makes one passport more powerful than another? The best-known passport ranking, from London-based investment migration consultancy Henley & Partners, focuses solely on visa-free travel. Essentially, the more countries a citizen can visit without a visa, the better. In that ranking, six nations—France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore and Spain—tie for the top position, with 194 visa-free destinations apiece. (In 2024, the U.S. is tied for sixth, with 189.)

Now we’re in March, it seems as if spring might be just around the corner. As the flowers bloom and baby animals appear, it’s a great time to plan a trip to some of Europe’s most beautiful destinations.
The area around Hardcastle in West Yorkshire springs into life in mid-March. The woodland floor transforms as if by magic into a soft carpet of wildflowers with bluebells appearing later in the season. The area was once called Little Switzerland because of its steep lush valleys bisected by rushing rivers, silver streams and footpaths. We found it to be the perfect antidote to winter, with shafts of golden sunlight casting their magic rays on all the lovely foliage. Head for a nice pub lunch at the Old Gate in Hebden after a morning walk.Nigel
