The Prague-Seoul flight route, operated by Korean Air, marks its 20th anniversary, celebrating over 1.5 million passengers and the introduction of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
One of the oldest and most important long-haul routes at Václav Havel Airport Prague is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Between 2004 and 2024, over 1.5 million passengers used the connection between Prague and Seoul. Korean Air is now using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to operate the route. The aircraft was welcomed by the airport firefighters with a water salute in Prague, and there was also a rich accompanying program at the gate.
The first Korean Air flight on the Prague-Seoul route was operated on 15 May 2004 by an Airbus A330-200 with a capacity of 257 seats. Over the years, several types of aircraft were deployed on the route, for example, Airbus A330-300, Boeing 777-200ER, and Boeing 777-300ER, Boeing 747-400 and 747-8i also regularly serviced Prague. Exceptionally, in March 2014, an Airbus A380 was deployed on the route. Currently, passengers can look forward to the already mentioned Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on this route.
“This is an important anniversary which I appreciate very much. It is great that over 1.5 million passengers have already used this long-haul Korean Air route in the 20 years of its operation. Prague has long been a popular destination for South Korean tourists and the popularity of this connection is gradually increasing. In the first quarter of this year, we recorded another increase in demand, which is good news as it is another step in building a network of direct routes to Asia. This service opens the door for travellers to destinations such as Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Australia. I’m very happy that our cooperation with Korean Air has worked long-term and been stable, and I firmly believe that we will celebrate a number of other milestones together,” Jiří Pos, Chairman of the Prague Airport Board of Directors, said.
“We are very pleased to celebrate two decades of direct flights to Prague. This air connection has opened many doors for business and tourism and is a symbol of the strong friendship between Korea and the Czech Republic. Korean Air remains ready to provide its high-level service and continue to facilitate the connection of both countries,” Jung Byung Sub, Korean Air Vice President of Passenger Sales, commented on the anniversary.
