Although the timing won’t be much help for would-be summer travelers, this United award sale for fall travel has a lot to recommend it.
Offer Details
Between June 20 and June 28, MileagePlus members can book restricted United coach award flights to Europe for 25 percent fewer miles, for travel between August 23 and March 31.

The discounted award travel is blacked out between December 15, 2016, and January 8, 2017.
Deal or No Deal
With the discount, roundtrip award flights to Europe cost 45,000 miles instead of the 60,000 miles normally required. That’s a significant saving.
Even factoring in the blackout period, the discounted travel period is almost seven months. That gives travelers plenty of time to work a trip into their schedules. Also nice.
The worst that can be said of this offer is that you only have until June 28 to book at the discounted rates.
If you have United miles, and a hankering to visit Europe, just do it!

At airports around Europe, particularly those with flights to and from Istanbul, it’s not uncommon to see men, their heads freshly shaved — some wearing caps intended to cover red scabs, others wearing forehead bands to prevent postoperative swelling — and all showing the unmistakable signs of recent hair transplant operations.
A man has accused a United Airlines flight attendant of shaming him and his wife over their special needs child's behavior during a flight from New Delhi to Newark.
Alaska Airlines is justly lauded for its Mileage Plan loyalty program, which among other features boasts 17 airline partners, allowing program members to earn and redeem miles for flights throughout the world.
Until yesterday, American Airlines customers dismayed at the airline’s August 1 pivot to a spend-based mileage program had a fallback option: Earn miles for their American flights in Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Plan program, which still awards miles the old-fashioned way, according to the distance flown.
Could you justify spending $35,000 for a year’s worth of unlimited business-class flights between New York and London or Paris? Probably not. But if so, La Compagnie has a deal for you.
By traditional measures, Alaska Airlines is a carrier of decidedly modest size, even after its acquisition of Virgin America. Its own flight network is small, compared to those of American, Delta, and United. And it’s not a member of one of the three global airline alliances.
Overall, Delta’s SkyMiles program has established itself as one of the industry’s least generous loyalty schemes. To play, you’ll pay. But with this limited-time award sale, you can at least pay less.
Visa Checkout allows Visa cardholders to make online purchases at participating retailers with a single sign in—no need to reenter card and personal information for every transaction.
Understandably, Virgin America loyalists are an unsettled lot, with their perky, tech-forward airline now set to be absorbed by an airline whose personality is represented by a scowling Eskimo.
