Southwest Airlines wants to help travelers get away this winter by offering a nationwide sale that has one-way flights starting at just $39.
The sale, which must be booked by 11:59 p.m. PT on Jan. 25, has big savings on flights criss-crossing the country for travel on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from Feb. 6 through May 22. To travel during the sale, a 21-day advance purchase is required.
There are no blackout dates listed for the sale. And while the fares are non-refundable, travelers can cancel and receive a credit to be applied toward a future flight.
Fly from Baltimore to Norfolk, Virgina, from Dallas to Tulsa, Oklahoma, from Burbank, California, to Las Vegas, and more starting at just $39 one-way. For just $139 one-way, travelers can escape the cold and fly from New York to Fort Lauderdale or from Milwaukee to Miami, or head to Denver for a ski break with flights as low as $90 each way from Indianapolis, $99 each way from Los Angeles, and $135 each way from New York City.
Travelers hoping to go even further can plan a trip to Cancun starting at just $173 one-way from Fort Lauderdale, or to Los Cabos starting at just $181 one-way from Houston.
Southwest is in the process of upgrading its onboard experience, including installing USB A and USB C power ports at every seat and offering better Wi-Fi connections, and has made it easier for customers to earn status in 2024. Southwest is also considering adding red-eye overnight flights to its roster, which CEO Bob Jordan recently called a “logical evolution” for the airline.
The sale, however, comes on the heels of a record $140 million fine issued by the Department of Transportation (DOT) following the carrier’s 2022 holiday flight meltdown. The DOT also required Southwest to establish a $90 million reserve fund for potential future delays and cancellations.
