With more than 115 million Americans expected to travel over the next few weeks, according to AAA, this holiday season is gearing up to be one of the busiest ones ever.
So how do you make the experience easier? As someone who travels constantly, that’s always my goal and I’ve found some items that really do make a difference. They won’t prevent flight delays or get you through security quicker (you’ll need TSA pre-check/global entry plus CLEAR for that) but they will solve many of the little annoyances that can come with travel and help you keep the holiday cheer. And, at this time of the year especially, is a gift in itself.
I’ve been traveling with Arlo Skye’s lemon colored carry-on for years and it’s my favorite piece of luggage ever. In fact, because I love the color and the style so much, I recently added the matching check-in bag. I get so many compliments on these pieces and the unique yellow makes them easy to spot immediately. The polycarbonate exterior has stood up to lots of rough handling and the inside is roomy and easy to organize. Plus, the eye-popping Dusen Dusen print on the interior lining makes me smile every time.
A reusable water bottle is a travel necessity these days and this one is double insulated to keep drinks icy cold for 24 hours – enough to last through the world’s longest flight, from New York to Singapore, with time to spare. It’s available in five great colors and it comes with two reusable straws so you can even enjoy a smoothie in it. I like that it’s big but manageable, thanks to its ergonomic handle, and I especially like that it’s designed to fit into a cup holder for long road trips.
Since the pandemic, we’ve all become more aware of keeping things clean and, as we know, nothing is dirtier than our screens. Since discovering these easy-to-use towelettes, I never leave home without them. The packs themselves come in a variety of great-looking prints and each one contains 15 disposable wipes pre-moistened with a special solution designed specifically for cleaning and removing germs from electronics and lenses. I use them on my phone, my laptop and – ugh – the entertainment screen on the back of the seat in front of me. I suggest buying the multipacks because, trust me, you’re going to want to use these a lot.
As someone who always wears a hair tie on my wrist just in case I need an emergency ponytail during overnight flights, hot days of sightseeing or spa treatments, I adore these multi-taskers. They look like gorgeous pieces of jewelry on my wrist but do the job effectively when I need to pull my hair back. Each set comes with five themed ties and, as a travel writer, I’m partial to Explore and Discover.
I’ve learned the hard way that it’s important to always fly

Wellness used to be as one-dimensional as a spin class and a smoothie. Diet and exercise are of course still fundamental, but we’ve finally started to embrace a more holistic approach to achieving better health. This means focusing on long neglected areas like a solid sex life, socializing, rest and recovery, and emotional and mental wellbeing. Feeling good now trumps looking good and healthspan—the quality of our years—has become just as important as lifespan. Longevity, the concept of living a longer and healthier life, will be the biggest buzzword of 2024, with wellness clinics as well as sybaritic beach retreats offering the latest biohacks (cryotherapy, infrared light treatments, poolside vitamin IV drips) to optimize our performance. Tantra gurus and sex therapists will be the new must-have in-house expert and artificial-intelligence empowered smart beds are fast becoming an expected amenity.
