Despite weather cancellations or winter break crowds taking over airports in February, one U.S. airport ranked No. 1 for most punctual hub for the month.
According to Cirium, an aviation analytics company, Washington-Dulles International Airport was ranked as the most on-time international airport worldwide in February. Of more than 15,000 domestic and international flights last month, Washington-Dulles had an impressive on-time departure rate of 89.95 percent.
«Washington-Dulles is a major gateway for global carriers — and a complex operation with large aircraft and long-haul flights traveling around the world,” Mike Malik, Cirium’s chief marketing officer, shared in a statement exclusively with Travel + Leisure. “It's quite an accomplishment for the airport and the airlines that operate from Dulles to have such an excellent on-time performance, especially in the middle of the North American winter.»
Cirium defines on-time departures based on flights that arrive at the gate within 15 minutes of the scheduled time. Several other U.S. airports made the global top 10 list, including Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (89.04%), Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (88.01%), Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (87.92%), Philadelphia International Airport (87.81%), Nashville International Airport (87.64%), and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (87.50%).
Even though Washington-Dulles serves as a fortress hub for United Airlines, Cirium found that Delta Air Lines was the most on-time domestic airline in February, with 89.27% of flights arriving on time. United trailed shortly behind with 84.91% of on-time flights in its network, followed by American Airlines with 84.43% of on-time arrivals last month.
Washington-Dulles has seen enormous growth over the last year, including new international routes from carriers Play, Norse Atlantic Airways, ITA Airways, and WestJet. In addition, the Biden Administration announced nearly $1 billion in airport grants just last month, of which Washington-Dulles will receive major investment to construct a new terminal with 14 gates.

The service will begin on Sept. 12, and operate three times per week. In a nod to the luck that visitors aim to have when visiting Las Vegas, the flight will operate with Norse’s lucky number seven as flight ‘Z0777’. The 9-hour and 50-minute direct route will depart Las Vegas at 4:45pm, and arrive in London Gatwick at 10:35am the following day, local time. The flight will operate on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. “We are excited to introduce this new route from London Gatwick to Las Vegas, a unique city that offers unparalleled diversity, boasting an abundance of entertainment, dining, and recreational options to suit every taste,” Norse Atlantic Airways CEO and Founder Bjorn Tore Larsen said in a statement.
