The Venetian Hotel is known for its nostalgic gondola rides and its plazas, bridges and painted sky evoking Venice. The resort is also known for its Grand Canal Shoppes, which encompass top brands in clothing, personal care, dining, drinking, entertainment and more.
The Venetian recently got a major boost with the opening of the Sphere, the next generation entertainment facility next door. A bang was provided by the initial act, the world-renowned Irish band U2.
The Sphere holds 18,600 and has been a sell-out so far for U2, which just extended its residency with tickets on sale through February 2024. From December 6 through February 18, 2024, the Irish band will play 19 more shows.
The Venetian and its Grand Canal Shoppes should also enjoy a boost from the upcoming Las Vegas Formula 1 race weekend, where some hotel-plus-ticket packages are marketed in the million-dollar range. The Grand Canal Shoppes are tempting shoppers with live bands, trunk shows and champagne at FERRAGAMO, Jimmy Choo, Burberry and Tory Burch through race weekend, which begins November 16.
As for U2, ticketholders can go through the convention center directly into the Sphere. The crowd appears an affluent one, with 100-page show programs going for $60.
The Venetian is capitalizing on the connection, with many ticketholders staying at the resort. At Venetian, there’s a Zoo Station U2 Experience. There’s even a U2-themed prix fix menu at the nearby estiatorio Milos, a seafood-oriented Greek restaurant in The Venetian tower. The pre-show five-course tasting menu starts with sashimi and flows to dishes like charcoal-broiled octopus and whole-grilled Mediterranean sea bream.
At a time when the world seems to be on fire, the Shoppes offer a relaxing place for a little retail therapy. Meanwhile, the Venetian’s reputation for luxury, elegance and service remains intact.
Perhaps that’s highlighted best at the Grand Canal Shoppes at Venetian. While the emphasis is on signature brands like FERRAGAMO, Burberry, Jimmy Choo, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton, and Tory Burch, known for its pocketbooks and shoes, there’s literally something for everyone.
The men’s clothier Shinobi has a fashionable collection of men’s handmade shoes, fragrances, suits, outerwear and even “shackets,” a blend of shirt and jacket. The clothier, whose origins are in the historic Japanese city of Kyoto, offers sharp clothes with a twist. No wonder people say that their clothing is for “James Bond on his day off.”
Flight Club, despite its clever name, is about neither flying nor fighting. Instead, Fight Club is home to games of social darts. The system takes your picture, asks for a nickname (mine was “OG”) and offers up six different dart games to play with pals. Even if

The Mandarin Oriental, New York is an ideal choice for travelers who want to enjoy a city escape—one that couples the best of bustling Manhattan with the luxury of a cocoon-like pied-ȧ-terre elevated high above the ground.

When I first moved to New York City from the Midwest as a freshman in college, I quickly learned to stop myself from talking to strangers.

Tigre It’s unusual to hear a rum based cocktail described as “joyful pain” but that happens at Tigre, the intimate, retro chic bar that opened this week on New York’s Lower East Side. The reason for this description is the rum, or rather rums, in the recommended cocktail Airmail composed of champagne and three symbiotic rums from Martinique, Venezuela and Haiti, countries in a region in which slavery played a part in their production. The social history detailed by the maître d’ is, obviously, painful but the cocktail itself is delicious, a choice on the “then” section reinventing classics of the six part menu. (Their screwdriver also has eight types of citrus including three types of orange.) Creative concoctions such as Mister Softee with Singani, sage and pina appear in the “Now” section and martini fans can dictate exact specifications with a ratio of 4:1 to 16:1 among other options.
Grand Mesa, one of Earth’s largest landforms, towers over the scenic city of Grand Junction, Colorado, like an 11,000-foot-high dinner table.
Over the past decade the global wellness tourism sector has gobbled up a huge segment of the travel industry’s market share. Its size was valued at $814.6 billion in 2022 and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.42% from 2023 to 2030, according to Grand View Research. Wellness tourism includes activities aimed at improving and enhancing an individual's physical, mental and spiritual well-being. I hadn’t planned my walk along the Sankey Canal to coincide with the axing of HS2 but it happened like that. It was a sunny day. I had been promising myself a hike along the towpath for ages. I grew up in the area and it holds a special place in my affections. As I wandered it struck me that this under-explored waterway was arguably the UK’s first significant development in infrastructure since the Romans built roads. It was built in two years.

In March, I decided to leave the familiar hustle and bustle of Brooklyn and hit the road in search of my new home. My drive across the country landed me in Denver, where I fell in love with the sun setting over the mountains and the wide-open streets free of mysterious smells and rat corpses.
