It might be surprising but Nova Scotia is one of the only destinations in Canada with its own wine appellation. Tidal Bay—a briny and refreshing white wine blend—has become one of the distinct flavors of the East Coast of Canada, not unlike lobster rolls or donairs, and although it’s easy to find a bottle of the stuff in most liquor stores in the province, tasting Tidal Bay straight from the source is way more fun.
The following vineyards are producing some of the best Tidal Bay (and more!) in the province right now—but they also offer things like beautiful al fresco dining, wine tastings, and vineyard tours. Here are five of the best vineyards to visit in Nova Scotia this spring:
Lightfoot & Wolfville specializes in organic and biodynamic wine—but the vineyard is also very well-loved for its wood oven pizza and beautiful tasting room. It’s worth noting that this spot also offers gluten-free and vegan pizzas to pair with its sustainable wine selection.
Benjamin Bridge offers delicious wine and wine coolers—but the vineyard is particularly well worth a visit for its guided tastings. Choose from a sparkling wine tasting (and be sure to try the infamous ever-so-delicately-effervescent Nova 7!) or opt for a classic tasting that spans the brand’s red and white portfolio as well.
Jost Vineyards is located in Malagash on the North Shore rather than in the Annapolis Valley—which makes a great option if you’re on the road from New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island. The largest farm winery in Nova Scotia has a great selection of reds and whites at all price points as well as a casual patio for al fresco wine tasting.
This winery is considered to be the oldest still-operating vineyard in Nova Scotia—and you can taste the decades of expertise in each sip. Domaine de Grand Pré offers visitors the chance to experience a beautiful local-inspired meal at Le Caveau and it’s also one of the only vineyards that also boasts an on-site inn right on the farm where guests can spend the night.
While most vineyards in Nova Scotia place emphasis on white wine, Luckett Vineyards prides itself on being one of the first to champion Nova Scotia red wine (though it has great whites and rosés in its roster as well). Be sure to make time to check out the on-site bistro which offers a diverse menu that ranges from classic Nova Scotian dishes to a decadent vegan board with hummus, spiced chickpeas, and samosas.

A beach is to a vacation is as ice cream is to apple pie: essential. We dream of beaches in Europe and we imagine that feeling of flaxen sand between our toes, the sounds of sea waves crashing on the shoreline, and the updrafts of salty ocean breeze. The small snag is, everyone else gets the same idea, and during peak seasons, carving out a spot on the shore to set out our picnic or recline with our beach read can feel like an impossible feat of engineering.
Though K-beauty first landed stateside back in 2011 — when Dr.Jart+ flooded the shelves of Sephora stores across the country and spawned the BB cream craze — South Korean skincare products have experienced a resurgence in popularity in the past few years.

Washington’s nickname, the Evergreen State, fits it well. This is a place rich in alpine meadows and old-growth forests, lakes and rivers, waterfalls and wildflowers. And what makes all this green beauty possible? Rain – lots of it. This corner of the Pacific Northwest (and its largest city, Seattle) have a well-earned reputation for wet, drizzly weather.
There is something about tucking into a well-crafted latte in a cozy cafe that is unmatched in the dopamine department—and Downtown Dartmouth has a handful of excellent spots well-worth taking the ferry over to check out. The following cafes are all walking distance from the ferry terminal and each offer something special—whether its a baked-to-perfection croissant, books and vinyl, or the perfect corner booth for a casual first date.
Even celestial events need a backing track—and the April 8 total solar eclipse is no different. Whether you’re road-tripping down to Hot Springs, Arkansas for Atlas Obscura’s Ecliptic Festival or flying over to Cleveland, Ohio, you’ll undoubtedly need some tunes to get you in the mood.
