Yosemite, established in 1864, is a superstar of the National Park System for good reason. A visit, whether you stay in well-connected Yosemite Valley or head out into the vast wilderness, is a humbling experience.

The Anderson Valley Pinot Noir Festival is one of my favorite wine events in the U.S. Now in its 25th year, “Pinot Fest” is a gathering of more than 50 producers from this small, cool-climate AVA, many of whose Pinot Noirs exceed their Sonoma competitors in quality at a fraction of the price. The most-anticipated new hotel in the ski industry this year — at least among those who like to travel using their points and miles — has to be the Grand Hyatt Deer Valley in Utah. The Deer Valley area will be the epicenter of a major expansion, not only in terms of lodging options but also skiing options. It's doubling its skiable terrain, possibly as early as 2025, which makes this hotel opening even more exciting.

When the chairlifts have made their last run of the winter, ski resorts throughout the country begin preparing for spring and summer activities. For many ski areas, spring and summer business equals winter numbers as guests come to take scenic chairlift rides, mountain bike or enjoy a variety of adrenaline-pumping water rides. One of California's best resorts and a World of Hyatt favorite, Alila Ventana Big Sur will remain closed through at least May 26. This is due to the closure of Highway 1 for construction following a series of events, including storms and multiple landslides, that seriously damaged the road over the last few weeks and months.
