The Four Seasons Hotel, The Westcliff in Johannesburg, South Africa may have a problem. The hotel has so much to offer that you may never want to step so much as a toe off the property to explore Johannesburg (despite the hotel’s incredible Curated Experiences designed to showcase the city’s assets — but more on that later).
From its luxurious accommodations and world-class dining to its serene spa and breathtaking views, every aspect of the hotel is crafted to provide an unparalleled experience. Whether you’re lounging by the spa pool, indulging in a gourmet meal, or simply soaking in the panoramic vistas, you’ll find it hard to leave this urban oasis. But rest assured, the allure of Jozi’s (as locals call Johannesburg) vibrant culture and rich history, as highlighted by the hotel’s bespoke activities, will eventually draw you out to explore the wonders beyond the property’s gates. Discover for yourself what makes Four Seasons Hotel, The Westcliff so special.
The Property
Hugging a hillside in the affluent Westcliff neighborhood, the Four Seasons offers a tranquil retreat with breathtaking views of the city’s lush canopy and the Johannesburg Zoo (don’t be surprised if you occasionally hear the roar of a lion while lounging in your room). The property’s design is a harmonious blend of contemporary elegance and African art works, creating a visually stunning and culturally rich environment.
The hotel’s extensive gardens (particularly the jacaranda and rose gardens, which are especially magical when fully in bloom), cascading waterfalls, and skillfully manicured pathways provide a peaceful escape from the busy city below. The hotel grounds are so expansive that the hotel is peppered with staff driving around in golf cars ready to chauffer you anywhere you want to go on property. But trust me, the best way to explore the property is to meander along random, cobblestoned pathways to see what you’ll stumble upon next. There are strategically placed lookouts throughout the grounds, some with panoramic 240-degree views of the city.
The hotel’s strategic location perched on a hill (which at times gives you the pleasant sensation that you’ve landed in a small secret hillside village) is perfectly placed to ensure not only breathtaking vistas but also easy access to Johannesburg’s key attractions, making it an ideal base for both relaxation and exploration. The hotel is only 14 miles from the airport and is more then happy to arrange transportation in a luxury vehicle to and from the hotel.
The Rooms
Four Seasons Hotel, The Westcliff, has 117 luxurious guest rooms and suites (105 spacious rooms and 12 suites) that reflect a contemporary, serene decor that showcases a modern Africa aesthetic. The

The queen of the French Riviera, Nice drips elegance and panache from every belle époque palace, baroque chapel and Mediterranean-blue chair on the prom. The capital of France's celebrity-stalked Côte d’Azur might be modest in size, but the choice of things to see and do in this iconic coastal town stretches well beyond bracing strolls along Promenade des Anglais and lizard-lounging on bum-numbing pebbles on the seashore.
Don't ask me where May went, I truly don't know. This month was a wild one for this hotel reporter. It started with my own wedding here in New York City, followed by a honeymoon in Paris, and the chance to catch the first night of the European leg of Taylor Swift's "The Eras Tour." I then immediately joined a wonderful retreat with TPG's travel team in Washington, D.C.
