Japanese Giant Salamanders Conservation
Come face-to-face with the famous Japanese giant salamanders in an under-touristed but lovely region of Japan. This unique wildlife trek highlights an area little known to most travelers to Japan. The crystal clear rivers and lush forests of the remote Nichinan region in Tottori Prefecture are home to these beguiling creatures.
Not your typical diminutive salamander, these giants can grow up to 4.5ft long and live for as long as a hundred years. In fact, their biology has remained the same for millions of years, which has earned them the endearing moniker of "living dinosaurs." Unfortunately, due to habitat alteration and loss, the population of these creatures is declining and there are dedicated scientists who spend their lives studying and tagging them. InsideJapan collaborates with a renowned expert on Japanese giant salamanders, dedicating his career to studying, observing, and tagging these creatures to gather crucial data for their preservation and longevity.
On this special tour you can join the researcher and get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see these shy, rare creatures in a responsible and ethical manner.
Sun Bear Conservation Center, Borneo
The sun bear, so named for the crescent-shaped patch of fur on its chest, is the world’s smallest bear. However, its existence is endangered not only due to habitat destruction and the illegal pet trade, but also because of poaching driven by the demand for its bile, highly valued in traditional Chinese medicine.
Dr Wong started the Sun Bear Conservation Center in 2008 with seven rescued bears. The aim of the center was to return as many of the bears as possible back into the wild. Now, the center is home to over 40 bears, and on a Borneo tour you can see for yourself how the bears’ rehabilitation is progressing as you watch them from boardwalks and platforms as they go about their lives under the protection of the centre.

Less great is that the odds against you winning are huge.
If you’re debating whether to spring for one of the best travel cameras before an upcoming trip, consider this: Yes, a smartphone is perfectly capable of serving the average traveler’s photography goals, but a dedicated camera is required for capturing high-quality memories. The wide angle lens of a smartphone camera can only take its images so far; in spite of technology’s advancements over the years, its zoom feature still degrades photo quality, making them too grainy—in our opinion—to be worth taking. When it comes to travel photography, many of us want to get close and fill the frame with exciting faraway shots like skylines and canyons. A good travel camera also allows the photographer to shoot exciting, fleeting scenes from their trips, like bicycles blurring through a charming street, low-light landscapes like a starry sky, or a city strip flashing with neon lights. Lastly, we’ll leave you with this: In an era when we’re glued to our phones every minute of the day, documenting a trip with a camera allows us to be present in the here and now, and actually connect with the place we’ve traveled so far to experience.
Though her work on Saturday Night Live keeps her tethered to New York City, comedian Chloe Fineman can most often be found criss-crossing the country to film in Los Angeles or back to the Bay Area, where she grew up. Recently, for her campaign with Nütrl Vodka Seltzer, she got to see a new place: Mexico City. “First of all, my brain still can’t understand how it’s a three-hour flight from LA [and five hours from New York], so I could meet all my friends in the middle,” she says. “And it was the most beautiful city. We saw luchadores wrestling, and the food was unbelievable. Some of the best meals in my life were in Mexico City!”

As a born-and-raised Oahu local, I've spent a lot of time getting to know the ins and outs of the beautiful Hawaiian island.
Osaka is half the size of Tokyo but just as much fun. Lightning-quick shinkansen trains link the two cities in a little over two hours while nearby cities of Kyoto, Kobe, and Nara are an easy day trip. Osaka itself is home to its namesake castle, scores of Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples, and a belting street food scene. The central districts are defined by Honmachi, Dōtonbori, Namba (Minami), and Kita (Umeda) although Osaka Bay is a handy base for visiting Osaka Aquarium (Kaiyukan) and Universal Studios Japan. Mingling Japanese and Western traditions, these are the top-rated Airbnbs in Osaka’s coolest neighborhoods.
If it seems like everyone and their mother is trying to use points and miles to go to Japan these days, you’re not wrong. But can you really blame them? Between the people, the history, the culture, the architecture, the nightlife, the shopping, and of course, the food, Japan is an absolute dream of a destination for so many, including honeymooners planning their once-in-a-lifetime vacations.
When I first stepped into Snow Peak's Williamsburg store, I knew this wasn't the rickety, mismatched camping gear I'd grown up with. As I pawed through racks of quilted jackets and pants, in shades of ivory and denim blue, and poked my head into a campground setup where everything boasted clean, taut lines, and gleaming titanium details (these pieces were sturdy), I found myself yearning for the simplicity of the outdoors—well, the simplicity I would be afforded by having this entire, gleaming collection and spending a weekend living among it.
