If you’ve seen or heard about the influx of Defenders driving around the Hamptons this summer, there’s a good reason for that. The luxury SUV was named the official vehicle for the 2023 Summer Season at The Surf Lodge in Montauk, making the Defender the it-car for scensters and surfers alike.
In honor of the property’s 15th anniversary, Surf Lodge is allowing all guests access to six vehicles: the Defender 90, Defender 110, and the new eight-seat Defender 130, to cruise around The Hamptons. The shiny SUVs are parked at the hotel, for easy access and ogling by all guests and nighttime visitors.
Surf Lodge guests can also upgrade to the Defender Hotel package for an extra $375 per night and enjoy a dedicated Defender to use throughout their stay. It’s a more casual take on the house car model seen all over the Hamptons — guests can drive themselves (instead of being chauffeured), for a more laid back, independent experience. It also takes the hassle out of a traditional car rental.
On the weekends, guests can also book complimentary local experiences to drive out for Defender Adventures. Options include a one hour private surf lesson for up to four people with a guide from local surf shop Air & Speed, followed by post-session refreshments. Up to five guests can enjoy a sunset beach picnic featuring a three course, locally sourced menu, plus a luxurious arrangement of picturesque furniture. At night, up to six guests can indulge in a beach bonfire under the stars with a charcuterie board of local cheeses, plus a gourmet s’mores setup. Guests will be greeted with a cozy arrangement of beach chairs and blankets, floor lanterns and a wood burning fire pit.
"I am thrilled to enhance our guest experience this summer with Defender as the property's official vehicle,” said Jayma Cardoso, Founder and Creative Director of The Surf Lodge. “The Defender brand perfectly embodies the Montauk lifestyle and the ethos of The Surf Lodge, and I couldn't think of a more perfect partner.”
Standard King Rooms at The Surf Lodge start at $600 per night, with master suites starting at $1250 per night. Reservations include a complimentary mini bar, continental breakfast, bike usage, weekend music access, weekend wellness classes. and more.

Myrtle Beach is a classic East Coast vacation spot. With the famous boardwalk, scenic golf courses, and white sand beaches, there’s something for visitors of all ages and backgrounds. A seaside motel may have a sentimental charm, but nothing beats the prices and advantages that come from staying in a rental home. Airbnb Myrtle Beach has some amazing properties to choose from.
Angry passengers on a Delta Air Lines flight that diverted to a Portuguese island say they were stuck in an enclosed area of the airport for 12 hours and were told by staff not to start "a revolution."
The east coast may have the dawn, but here in San Juan, La Union, we get the sunsets. Cumulus clouds pile high over the horizon as waves obliterate themselves on the sand, turning into a mist, making everything glow.

It's an early spring morning in Milan. The cosmopolitan hub of Italy's north is awakening with a shot of espresso. Many are bleary-eyed after a whirlwind week celebrating the Salone del Mobile, the world's largest furniture-and-design fair. Outside Palazzo Serbelloni, I'm standing in a queue that's snaking around the neoclassical palace. If its weathered stucco walls could talk, they'd tell tales of the palazzo's notable inhabitants, including Napoleon Bonaparte and King Vittorio Emanuele II. Yet this crowd of international and local style setters and design aficionados (mostly in smart sneakers, not the suede loafers of yore) isn't searching for history; it wants to see something new. And Milan, which suddenly feels like the most forward-thinking city in Italy—a place of big ideas, investment, and innovation, busily spouting new subway lines, cutting-edge hotels, and infrastructure ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics—is more than ready to oblige.

Summers in my hometown of Geneva, Switzerland used to bring sunny spells, but also long, rainy periods during which one wondered whether July had suddenly morphed into November. No longer. Climate change and its resulting heat waves have transformed the aquatic landscape, and more importantly the relationship between people and Lake Geneva (also known as Lake Léman). Along the quays, outdoor bars and cafes have sprung up, and on the water, sail boats, yachts, but also kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and even floating mattresses lend a new Mediterranean feel to this Alpine scenery.
Mrs. Bain’s objective is to significantly enhance the skill set of the hotel’s staff, thereby propelling Mount Cinnamon to expand its range of service provisions.
Saint-Tropez may be known for glitz, but a few miles along the coast, the very ground beneath my feet glitters like a jet-setter hotel. I’m in the Var department in south-eastern France, where the Maures massif meets the Mediterranean and the bedrock is mica schist, a flaky stone that sparkles in the Provençal sunshine (and also makes for great wine).
