While New England is home to a plethora of postcard-perfect inns and bed and breakfasts, it's tough to top the charm, grace, and remote location of The Weston.
Just opened in the tiny town of Weston, Vermont, amidst the Green Mountains—where there's no cellular service, and the population is just shy of 800 residents—the handsome haven perched on Main Street spread across two historic structures is where old-world nolstagia meets big-city comforts. The latest endeavor by The Sharps, the family behind iconic hotels including The Carlyle in New York City and Los Angeles’ Beverly Wilshire, The Weston is poised to become a top destination for discerning urbanites in searach of an escape marrying tranquility and sophistication.
Each of the eight guest rooms and suites are uniquely configured to honor the structures’ original bones, and designed with European flair and refined American touches: think 18th-century antiques, vintage art, and hand-carved four-poster beds. While the accommodations are high on style, there’s plenty of modern-day conveniences, too, such as automated closet lights, spacious bathrooms with Lafco Feu de Bois toiletries, and lots of complimentary snacks. The overall feel is uniquely grand, yet intimate—you’ll feel worlds away from everyone, and still feel completely cared for.
This fastidious attention to detail extends to Le Spa. Though the facilities err on the small side, you have all the essentials to break a sweat and decompress. You’ll find a room equipped with a treadmill, elliptical trainer, and stationery bike, along with a cozy yoga studio available for private sessions. Though the spa’s treatment menu is concise with just facials and massages, everything is performed with expert care and products from Natura Bisse. When the weather warms up, spend time outdoors on the hotel’s immaculate grounds with a round of bocce ball or croquet.
Eating and drinking well come easily at The Weston thanks to its signature restaurant The Left Bank helmed by Executive Chef Bretton Combs. The specialty of the charming, pub-like space is hearty French-leaning fare. Though Combs’ takes on traditional Onion Soup Gratinée, Steak au Poivre, and Confit de Canard are exemplary, consider one his original creations like the pan-seared swordfish accompanied by pomegranate, arugula, and couscous. The wine program, developed in part with Vermont’s Artisanal Cellars, spotlights bottles that are organic, hard-to-find, and small-production.
No matter the time of year you plan a visit to The Weston—even if it’s during the peak summer months—you’ll tap into something that few destinations within driving distance from New York City are able to offer: peace and solitude in an incredibly well-curated setting

As someone who grew up in Wisconsin and moved to New York City a decade ago, I enjoy analyzing the similarities and differences between the two regions I call home.
During the pandemic, doing jigsaw puzzles became a form of meditation for me (and thousands of others) and I’m still doing them four years later. Puzzles have come a long way from the dusty old landscapes and cat illustrations you may still have on your basement shelf; dozens of new brands (many of them women-owned) have popped up and they’re creating beautiful, unique, statement-making works of art that are fun to do and worthy of framing.

Chicago is well known for its reputation as a city of neighborhoods. Vibrant as ever, Little Italy, sometimes pooled with University Village, is one of the best communities in Chicago. While this area was once predominately home to Italian immigrants, it is now made up of diverse residents in no small part due to urban renewal and the proximity to University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), Rush University Medical Center, UI Health, United Center, and Cinespace Studios.

It may not the DeLorean, but some United Airlines passengers are going to have their own «Back to the Future» moment when they travel back in time to celebrate New Year’s Eve twice — and where they’re going, they don’t need roads.
