Lyft will pay travelers up to $100 if their scheduled ride is late thanks to a new on-time pick up promise — just in time for holiday travel.
The rideshare company is now promising travelers who schedule a ride in advance that their car will be there — but if the driver is more than 10 minutes late, Lyft will pay them $20 in Lyft Cash, the company shared with Travel + Leisure. Travelers who are not automatically matched with a driver in 10 minutes after their scheduled pickup time will then receive $50 in Lyft Cash.
Riders who are not matched with a driver and who schedule another ride to the airport with a different company can then request up to an additional $50 in Lyft Cash (for $100 in total). To make that request, customers should tap the “help” tab in the Lyft app and submit the receipt from their alternate transportation.
“Every minute counts when you’re on the way to the airport,” David Risher, Lyft’s CEO, said in a statement shared with T+L. “We’re so confident that we can get you there on time that if we’re more than ten minutes late for your scheduled pick-up, we’ll give you up to $100 in Lyft credits to make up for it — even if you take an Uber.”
The new guarantee will be available in 22 markets: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Newark, San Francisco, Washington, Boston, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, Denver, Seattle, Tacoma, Orlando, Houston, Minneapolis/St.Paul, Portland, San Jose, and Salt Lake City.
Travelers can book a ride up to 30 days in advance and set a preferred pick up time.
In addition, Lyft has introduced an “Extra Comfort” option in which travelers can select “roomier cars with top-rated drivers” as well as pre-select their preferences for things like temperature, help with luggage, or if they want a quiet ride. The option is available in most markets the rideshare company operates in across the country.
