The Federal Aviation Administration is asking airlines to visually inspect the door plugs on another type of Boeing 737 jet.

The Boeing 737 Max 9 saga has impacted more than 1,500 Alaska Airlines flights as the carrier said there will be cancelations through Friday.

Air travel cancellations and delays continued to soar in the U.S. on Tuesday as a severe winter storm arrived in the Northeast. 

Snowy and frigid weather swept the country over the holiday weekend from Texas and the Midwest to the Northeast, canceling and delaying thousands of flights.

Last week Lufthansa made history. Weeks ahead of its major European rivals, the airline resumed scheduled services to Israel. On Friday, a fuselage panel blew out on an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 plane seven minutes after takeoff from Portland, Oregon.

Following Friday’s incident aboard an Alaska Airlines flight—in which part of a Boeing 737 Max 9 jet’s wall blew out in mid-air, rapidly depressurizing the cabin and requiring an emergency landing—the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued an emergency airworthiness directive (EAD).

United Airlines has found loose door plug bolts on at least five of the Boeing 737 Max 9 planes, as airlines begin inspecting planes following the Federal Aviation Administration’s temporary grounding order.

The FAA said Monday that airlines can begin inspecting more than 100 Boeing 737 Max 9 planes after a section of the fuselage on an Alaska Airlines jet blew off shortly after takeoff. 

Alaska Airlines and United Airlines may face little more than the cost of a “severe weather event” from the temporary grounding of most Boeing 737-9s, a second-largest model in the 737 Max family, following an accident aboard an Alaska aircraft on Friday.

Cancellations for Alaska Airlines and United Airlines continued into Monday as the FAA said certain Boeing 7 Max 9s would stay grounded until the agency deemed them safe to operate. 

The Federal Aviation Administration said Saturday it would temporarily ground certain Boeing 737 Max aircraft and require immediate inspections, after a section of one aircraft blew off during an Alaska Airlines flight on Friday.
