This certification is also a significant milestone in the Greater Palm Springs area’s initiative to become a Certified Autism Destination (CAD).
PALM SPRINGS, CA – The Palm Springs Convention Center, an ASM Global managed facility, announce it is the first convention center in California designated as a Certified Autism Center (CAC) by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). The staff underwent comprehensive training to enhance experiences for autistic and sensory-sensitive guests across the spectrum.
Rob Hampton, General Manager of the Palm Springs Convention Center, expressed his pride in achieving this important designation. “We are honored and proud to become a Certified Autism Center, reflecting our unwavering commitment to inclusivity and our dedication to providing a welcoming environment for autistic individuals. By completing this training, we aim to ensure everyone can fully enjoy the experiences and events at our convention center.”
To receive this certification, the destination must offer a wide range of trained and certified individuals in customer-facing businesses, such as lodging, restaurants, retail, and entertainment.
Myron Pincob, IBCCES Board Chairman, noted, “The Palm Springs Convention Center becoming a Certified Autism Center not only enhances its accessibility for all patrons but also contributes to the Greater Palm Springs progress towards becoming a Certified Autism Destination. This is a crucial step in creating a more inclusive and welcoming environment for autistic individuals and their families.”
Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism is also included in the certification. This allows Guest Service Representatives at the two Palm Springs Visitor Information Centers and Convention Center to provide a hospitable space for individuals and families seeking tourist information. They can also highlight Palm Springs restaurants, hotels, and attractions that are Certified Autism Centers.

They are excited and a bit nervous. “Will there be sharks?” they inquire for a third or fourth time. “Definitely not,” our guide responds with a smile. Which comes across as comforting if not convincing.
