If you’re looking for a budget-friendly flight down south—you’re in luck. Southwest Airlines has announced it will be expanding its international flight schedule by next summer—with new routes flying to Mexico, Costa Rica, Cayman Islands, Turks & Caicos, and more.
Starting on June 4, 2024, Southwest will be offering nonstop flights to a handful of destinations within Mexico and the Caribbean. The daily flight schedule will expand its central Florida route map while offering US-based travelers a more economical solution to flying internationally.
This news comes at the heels of the airline announcing that it will also be expanding its services in California with daily nonstop flights between Burbank, CA, and Boise, Kansas City, New Orleans, San Antonio, and St. Louis which will also begin as of June 4, 2024.
The carrier also has plans to provide seasonal service from Dallas and Nashville which will include Saturday-only flights between Dallas, Buffalo/Niagara, NY, Fresno, CA, Providence, RI, and Spokane, WA.
The new schedule marks an all-time high for the budget-friendly carrier with 4,526 departures.
Southwest Airlines has also taken aim at its loyalty program earlier this month in order to make the overall flight experience even more pleasant for its growing passenger base. The Rapid Rewards Program will see a total of five distinct enhancements by 2024.
“We're making our award-winning Rapid Rewards program even stronger, by adding new enhancements to our loyalty program, making it even easier for Members to earn and enjoy their benefits," said Jonathan Clarkson, Vice President of Marketing at Southwest Airlines, in a press release.
“By lowering the tier requirements and making credit card spend count double toward tier requirements, we're able to deepen engagement with our brand and cobranded credit cards, while maintaining the core program values that our Customers know and love—including unlimited reward seats, no blackout dates, and points that don't expire.”

One summer, many years ago when I was 17, I met a Dutch girl in a pub who was backpacking around Ireland. She said she was staying in hostels and was off to Doolin in County Clare the next day. I never saw the Dutch girl again despite a full search of every pub in the village.
