Spirit Airlines is adding new flights to Puerto Rico, making it easier to get to the island this spring.
Starting May 8, the low-cost carrier will fly nonstop from Houston to San Juan four times each week, Spirit confirmed to Travel + Leisure. The next day, Spirit will launch a nonstop flight from New Orleans to San Juan three times each week, which the airline said will mark the only direct service between the two cities.
The Houston route will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, while the New Orleans route will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
“It will soon be easier than ever for New Orleans travelers to escape to the Island of Enchantment with Spirit’s launch of the only nonstop flight from MSY to San Juan,” John Kirby, the vice president of network planning at Spirit Airlines, said in a statement provided to T+L. “We’re excited to connect the two cities with our low fares that give MSY travelers More Go to great vacation destinations, just in time for the popular summer travel season.”
In addition, Spirit will add new flights to its network between Baltimore and Boston; New Orleans; Portland, Oregon; and San Diego. These will each launch on May 8 or 9.
To celebrate, these flights will start at just $41 one-way. But to take advantage, travelers must travel by June 5. The promotional fares also include several blackout dates from May 23 to May 28.
Finally, the carrier will add new daily routes between Pittsburgh and New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA) starting on May 8.
Spirit is a low-cost airline offering bare-bones tickets and charging for extras like baggage and seat selection. The airline, however, does have a paid yearly membership program, the Saver$ Club, which gives members discounts on those extras, along with a status-matching program, which gives travelers access to those same types of perks for a fee.
