With a $100 million investment in Utah’s Powder Mountain, billionaire Reed Hastings is the new owner of North America’s largest ski resort. “This is an investment in what we consider to be the ultimate skier experience,” said Hastings, who stepped down as CEO of Netflix in January and became a minority owner of Powder Mountain in April. “We’re looking to accentuate what has always made it special. We’ll do that by making it more easily accessible, by bolstering infrastructure and amenities, and by maintaining the uncrowded feel Powder Mountain is known for.”
In an industrial park near Seattle’s airport, Micro-X, an Australian technology company, is testing a system that would make travelers’ airport dreams come true—speeding through security lines with minimal human interaction. The redesigned airport checkpoints resemble supermarket checkout lanes and can process passengers in 60 seconds on average and as quickly as 30 seconds. The only downside? The new technology is still several years away.
