Uber just unveiled a new way to get to the airport.
This week, the ride-sharing company introduced Uber Shuttle, a new service that provides transportation to and from large venues, including airports and concerts in the United States.
During the company's annual product showcase presentation on Wednesday, Uber explained that shuttles will provide a more affordable ride option, and less congestion in high traffic areas. Shuttles operate similarly to a ticketed bus experience, where passengers reserve a seat on a vehicle that can accommodate as many as 55 people per trip.
«Whether you're a traveler, sports fan, or concert goer, get ready because Uber Shuttle is arriving soon,” Uber Shuttle’s General Manager Anthony le Roux shared in a product presentation.
When. it comes to rollout of the new product, le Roux described the airport shuttle service as a “pilot” with airport partners, and was not able to share which airports would be part of the new experience.
The shuttle experience will initially launch with transportation to concert venues in Chicago, Charlotte and Pittsburgh. The service will also be rolled out too Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins, and more.
The cost will be “a fraction of the price of an UberX,” the company said. In an example presented on-screen during the announcement, a trip in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from a designated Downtown Drop-off to PNC Music Pavilion cost $15 on Uber Shuttle, versus a UberXL price of $44.99.
The company also announced enhancements and discounts for the Uber One membership which waives delivery fees on food and groceries, as well as other perks. College students can now save with the subscription dropping to $4.99 a month, versus the regular cost of $9.99 a month. Costco Shoppers will soon be able to order through the Uber app, and receive a 20% on the membership.
