United Airlines is betting on adventure travel this year, adding a slate of summer routes to national parks and outdoor destinations in Canada.
In May, the airline will resume popular seasonal routes to Canada from its major domestic hubs. Travelers can look forward to United’s flights between Chicago O’Hare and Quebec City and Winnpieg; Denver and Winnipeg; Newark and Halifax; and Washington, D.C., and Vancouver, all of which will resume for the summer 2024 season.
“We know people want to get outdoors this summer, and United is making it easier than ever to get to fun destinations across North America,” United's senior vice president of network planning and alliances, Patrick Quayle, said in a statement. “From adding non-stop service to places previously only reachable through multiple connections to leveraging our relationships with airline partners like Air Canada, we’re giving customers lots of options to unlock new experiences.”
United saw a surge in interest from travelers on Canada flights in 2022 when the airline first announced a major partnership expansion with Air Canada. The codeshare agreement has been wildly popular ever since, as the two airlines introduced more than 260 daily flights between the U.S. and Canada last summer.
Now, ahead of the summer 2024 season, United will firmly remain the largest domestic carrier serving Canada. In total, there will be 100 new flights to the U.S. and Canada on the schedule for summer 2024, according to the airline.
The news comes days after United filed a brand-new route between its Washington-Dulles hub and Anchorage, Alaska, set to begin this May, supplementing its network of adventure travel destinations.
United will even fly its larger planes to add more seat capacity among its popular domestic and transborder routes. Other exciting destinations that travelers can look forward to this summer include Bozeman, Mont., Kalispell, Mont., and Jackson Hole, Wyo.
All of these flights are on sale through United’s website or mobile app, and travelers can take a look at Travel + Leisure’s adventure travel guides for even more inspiration.

With its crystalline waters and sublime beaches, Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda, a 20- kilometer tranche of seaside running along the island’s northeast coast, has been a go-to for the world’s elite for decades. When Prince Karim, Aga Khan IV, who led a consortium that developed the area in the 1960s, first surveyed a then barren landscape he reportedly said, “There is a multitude of fine sandy beaches and no one to walk on them.” But once the posh retreat—sustainably planned and created by top architects of the day—opened for business it drew a rarified crowd, including Greta Garbo, Grace Kelly and Gianni Agnelli, who came to experience the unique beaches, or at least gaze at them with admiration from their nearby yachts.
In the winter of 1969, Santa Barbara’s coastal ecosystem was blitzed by three million gallons of crude oil. Responding to the catastrophic spill, and the ongoing assault of ecosystems throughout the United States, Senator Gaylord Nelson called upon American youth to rally for the environment as strenuously as they’d protested the Vietnam War.
