A summer getaway to Italy just got easier to plan.
Months after American Airlines announced its 2024 expansion to Italy, the airline laid out its schedule — officially operating its largest-ever number of routes to the European country in the company’s 97 year history.
The airline will soon operate a new direct flight from New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport to Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino International Airport for the entire summer season, starting on June 5, 2024, a spokesperson for American shared with Travel + Leisure.
“With 11 daily flights connecting the U.S. with Italy this summer, American’s summer schedule offers customers more convenient access to enjoy their summer vacations making new memories in unforgettable locations,” American’s Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning Brian Znotins, said in a statement shared with T+L.
The airline provided the following updated flight schedule to Italy from their United States hubs, which are all available for purchase now on American’s website:
Italy’s variety of historical and contemporary activities have attracted a record number of visitors since the COVID-19 travel restrictions were lifted. In 2023, over 200 million airline passengers traveled to an airport in Italy, which was 2.1 percent higher than the previous record set in 2019, according to Italian airport data.
Travelers visiting one of Italy’s cities should take note of new crowd control measures, such as Venice’s new daily tickets, or admission fees to visit Rome's Pantheon.
