Breeze Airways is continuing to expand with brand-new flights to Illinois, marking the first time the low-cost airline will fly to the state.
The flights will connect Springfield, Illinois, with both Orlando and Tampa and be flown twice a week, the airline shared with Travel + Leisure. Flights between Illinois and Orlando will launch on Dec. 1, while flights between Illinois and Tampa will launch on Dec. 4.
The flights will operate on the airline’s Airbus A220-300 aircraft, which includes the carrier’s “Nicest” fare option and its newest product, Breeze Ascent. (The latter comes with checked baggage, complimentary snacks and beverages, in-seat AC power, and USB and USB-C charging ports.)
“Springfield will be our first airport served in Illinois, and it’s joining the network with two great nonstop routes right from the jump,” Tom Doxey, Breeze Airways’ president, said in a statement provided to T+L. “Breeze is all about adding service to underserved markets and city pairs, and we can’t wait to give the community of Springfield some new destinations with Breeze’s added convenience, affordability, and flexibility.”
To celebrate the new routes, Breeze is offering $49 one-way flights for travelers who book their tickets by 11:59 p.m. ET on Sept. 25 and fly by April 30, 2024.
With the addition of the new routes, Breeze will now launch 21 different routes to Florida from September through December. The airline, which was founded in 2021 by former JetBlue founder David Neeleman, has rapidly expanded since and recently announced new flights from both Portland, Maine, and Plattsburgh, New York, to Florida.
Neeleman has said the airline’s goal is to fly to places where other carriers don’t, choosing smaller airports and cities over major hubs. Currently, Breeze flies to 37 different cities across the country from coast to coast, according to the airline.

Older adult drivers with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have a significantly higher crash risk compared with their counterparts without it. Until now, research on ADHD and driving safety was largely limited to children and young adults, and few studies assessed the prevalence of and its association with crash risk among older adult drivers.

“Fire Island is a very special place, especially for queer people,” Jimi Urquiaga, a.k.a. Missleidy Rodriguez, told me. While that might seem like a statement of the obvious, Urquiaga has experienced the island from an atypical vantage point: for the past two summers, they've been packing up their life in New York City as a costume designer, producer, creative director and drag queen to come work at the Pines’ plant shop, CAMP. Urquiaga called me on their break, sitting behind a desk at the plant shop, with a view overlooking the bay. “So that’s the fantasy,” they said with a laugh after describing their surroundings.
