Venice, Italy, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Known as the “Floating City,” the city is built on islands and connects via bridges and canals. Unfortunately, over-tourism has become an issue for the city, so the city has introduced new rules to help manage some of the problems.

In 2023, travel came back with a vengeance, with travel bookings climbing to near pre-COVID-19 numbers, according to a recent Prosper Insights & Analytics survey. But many destinations struggled to manage the heightened influx of tourists, and some governments actively took measures to limit the quantity of visitors. Among the changes: new or increased tourist taxes, campaigns aimed at discouraging problematic visitors, and attendance caps at popular attractions.

Italy’s iconic “Floating City” is famous for many things, including its historic network of canals, stunning architectural landscape, and rich artistic and cultural heritage. But one abiding feature that isn’t always advertised are her avian residents and abundance of seagulls in particular.

Millions of years old and home to over a third of planet Earth’s plant and animal species – plus some of the world’s last uncontacted tribes – the vast forest nicknamed the «Earth’s Lungs» is under serious threat from deforestation. Over the past four decades around 40 percent of the Amazon has been destroyed, primarily for mining, industrial agriculture and illegal logging.
