Always dynamic, Tokyo shows a new side to its character with each passing season. There's really no bad time to visit. Spring and fall bring great weather for sightseeing and seasonal changes in foliage – hanami (flower viewing) in spring and momijigari (leaf-viewing) in autumn – that are followed by locals with giddy enthusiasm. In summer people gather to watch giant firework displays light up the night sky, and in winter, there are fewer crowds, festive illuminations, and snow-clad Mt Fuji is at its most beautiful. 

There’s much to consider when selecting a running shoe. Will you be running on the pavement, a treadmill, or a crushed-gravel trail? Is it more important for a shoe to be lightweight for competing or cushioned for comfort and knee relief? Is your gate neutral or does over pronation occur?

Bostonians often joke that the city's many winding, one-way streets were adapted from colonial-era cow paths—routes literally created by livestock—that long predate the automobile. Whether that’s true or not, most locals agree that the more modern iteration of this city was built for runners. Boston’s green spaces, diversity of neighborhoods, harbor- and river-front trails, and quiet side streets all make this city especially well-suited for a leisurely, scenic jog.

It was the combination of my least favorite conditions: drizzly weather mixed with uneven surfaces. But with less than two months to go in my Boston Marathon training, I set off on a run, despite not having my running shoes on me. On my feet: Lululemon’s first casual sneaker, the Cityverse.

Oofos shoes challenge everything I thought I believed about comfort. Like most travelers who love spending hours traipsing around new cities—I have many times chosen to climb the steep, cobblestoned streets of Bairro Alto in Lisbon instead of taking a taxi, and consider walking the entire length of Central Park an ideal afternoon activity—I have to think about what's practical, and not going to hurt my feet 10 minutes into a 4-hour jaunt. But you won't see me Googling “comfortable walking shoes” and clicking the first option that appears. I still want to look good during all this exploring, you see. (What else am I doing in a fabulous city besides trying to feel entirely fabulous?)

When I first started running, I put on a decade-old sports bra and began pounding the pavement, figuring that the girls bouncing around was simply something I’d have to get used to. But as my mileage increased, I found myself chafing severely—once, after an 18-mile run, I had a blood-stained outline of my bra on my skin. Needless to say, it was time for a serious upgrade.

It's also a great place for a group trip. I hadn’t been on one of this magnitude since my high school marching band and I bombarded the staff at Kalahari. During the week-long vacation with 14 friends, I was most interested in going to the beach, enjoying the pool, and napping in the sun (lathered in sunscreen, of course) without a care in the world.

The London Marathon, set to attract 50,000 runners on Sunday, took several steps to lower its carbon footprint, including charging foreign entrants who had to travel to the city a $32 fee (26 pounds) as part of their entry applications.

I’ve never been to London, but I’ve experienced it many times. From sitting in on royal meetings in Buckingham Palace to passing through the walls of King’s Cross Station at Platform 9 ¾, London has come alive in my imagination through some of my favorite books and movies.
