Philadelphia is getting major love from Frontier Airlines with a dozen new summer routes — and a sale to celebrate.
Announced Wednesday, Frontier has a stacked schedule from Philadelphia to begin this May to cities including Chicago-O’Hare; Columbus; Detroit; Indianapolis; Knoxville, Tenn.; Milwaukee; Minneapolis; Pensacola; Pittsburgh; Portland, Maine; and St. Louis.
Some of the routes are brand-new to the airline, while others are returning for the summer 2024 season.
To take advantage of the airline's introductory fare sale, tickets must be purchased by 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday, Feb. 9. Fares are valid for nonstop travel on Monday through Thursday, and Saturday, through June 19.
“From the Midwest to the East Coast and from Maine to Florida, these new routes span much of the country and represent our continued commitment to growth from PHL,” Frontier’s CEO, Barry Biffle, said in a statement. “In fact, PHL will see the second largest increase in daily departures on Frontier this summer among our major operational bases.”
Some of the routes will operate daily, such as Philadelphia to Chicago and Detroit, while others operate on a 3x-weekly basis.
In total, Frontier will offer nearly 40 destinations from Philadelphia, “an increase of 47 percent versus the year prior,” according to the airline. The growth of a low-cost carrier on these domestic routes could bring overall fares down from the Northeastern airport, as Philly serves as one of American’s major hub airports.
Philadelphia isn’t the only focus city that Frontier has been growing recently. Over the past few months, the airline launched new crew bases and routes across the Midwest in Cleveland and Chicago’s O-Hare and Midway Airports.
Ultra-low-cost carriers like Frontier mostly serve leisure travelers with its schedule of domestic and international destinations — and its popular all-you-can-fly-pass encourages unlimited flying across Frontier’s network. However, the airline has been on a roll with several unique offers, including a new “business class” fare to reel in more business travelers with included perks offered by more traditional legacy carriers.

In 1958, when Mary Pat Laffey Inman became a stewardess — as they were then called — for Northwest Airlines, she was 20 years old and the clock was already ticking. At 32, she would be forced to retire. That is, if she didn’t marry, get pregnant or even gain too much weight before that: All were grounds for termination. It was the golden age of aviation for everyone except, perhaps, the women serving in-flight meals to the nattily dressed passengers.
