JetBlue will launch service at an airport in New York’s Long Island for the first time, expanding its presence in the state.
New flights from the Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) will launch in October, according to JetBlue. From there, the carrier will fly daily to Orlando International Airport (MCO) starting Oct. 24, four times per week to Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) starting Oct. 24, and four times per week to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) starting Oct. 25.
«Long Island is an integral part of the New York Metro area, and we are excited to bring our award-winning service to customers in this community,» Dave Jehn, JetBlue’s vice president of network planning and airline partnerships, said in a statement. «The addition of Long Island MacArthur Airport to our network will offer more options and greater convenience for customers, and we are proud to provide new opportunities for more Long Islanders to experience our unique combination of low fares and great service.»
To celebrate the new flights, JetBlue is offering $49 one-way fares for travelers who book by June 13 and travel to either West Palm Beach by Dec. 17 or to Fort Lauderdale or Orlando by Dec. 18. The promotional fare is not available on Fridays or Sundays or from Nov. 26 to Dec. 2.
The MacArthur Airport is located in Ronkonkoma in Suffolk County, and is closer to the Hamptons than it is to Manhattan. Currently, Breeze Airways, Frontier Airlines, and Southwest Airlines fly out of its terminal, according to the airport.
Shelley LaRose-Arken, the MacArthur Airport commissioner, said the airport is “convenient, has efficient security lines, and provides an overall stress-free travel experience.”
Beyond MacArthur, JetBlue boasts a hub at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and flies out of the area’s two other large airports: LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
While JetBlue is adding a new airport, it is also reducing its transatlantic service to Europe for winter and cutting several other routes, including LaGuardia to New Orleans, LaGuardia to Nassau in the Bahamas, and JFK to Puerto Vallarta.
