For years, expedition cruising has been defined in the cruise world as a type of cruising that involves traveling to the most remote places in the world on small, hardy vessels that carry their own landing craft.

At 27 years old, I completed my wanderlust dream of traveling to every country in the world as a solo female traveler. To be exact, I've visited all 193 sovereign nations — plus Taiwan, Kosovo, and Palestine. Then, by the age of 30, I achieved my athletic dream of becoming an Ironman. I find great fulfillment in inspiring and educating young women to get out and pursue their passions — or whatever gets them excited in life.  

Travel is an adventure — now more than ever.

While Instagram has long been the hotspot for influencers posting their luxurious travels to faraway destinations, TikTok is slowly dominating this space. The hashtag for "travel" videos has amassed over 220 billion views.

Brochures advertising expedition cruises promise once-in-a-lifetime trips to some of the world’s most pristine destinations. Small vessels specifically designed for challenging waters travel to the likes of the Northwest Passage, Antarctica, and the Galapagos Islands throughout the year.

While I was born and bred here in New Zealand – or Aotearoa, the country's Māori-language name – I’ve spent enough years away to understand how it’s a destination that can feel comfortingly familiar and completely strange to visitors all at once. 

Australia’s award-winning expedition travel company, Aurora Expeditions, has announced that its voyagers now have access to enhanced connectivity following the rollout of Space X’s Starlink aboard two of its purpose-built ships, the Greg Mortimer and Sylvia Earle.

As the days grow shorter and the evenings cooler, Labor Day Weekend in the United States marks a bittersweet moment: it serves as the unofficial conclusion to the summer travel season.

If you spend a lot of time outdoors at night in the summer, you might be used to seeing shaky, silhouetted creatures flitting above.
