Extend summer as long as possible with a visit to a seaside town in Ontario. The natural landscapes and rugged beauty of Ontario make a great road trip destination where you can admire beautiful picturesque coastlines. Canada’s second largest province is packed with hiking trails, waterfalls, crystal clear lakes, rivers, and natural hidden gems. Each of these seaside towns offers something unique with various attractions, dining, accommodations, outdoor activities, and of course the sandy beaches. They are all excellent choices for an end of summer road trip adventure.

If picturesque cycling, coastal walks and simple seaside pleasures float your boat, make the Isle of Wight your first port of call. Home to Queen Victoria’s summer retreat, Osborne House, the island has 20 beaches and a series of unspoilt coves. A network of cycle and walking trails covers 17 miles of coastline and countryside. Famous for the Cowes sailing regatta in July and August, the 147-square-mile island also offers every water sport going, from kayak surfing and windsurfing to paddle-boarding and parasailing.

The Ridgeway really is as old as the hills — well, almost. For over 5000 years, travellers, farmers, soldiers and, more recently, cyclists have followed this 87-mile-long trackway (pictured above) between Avebury in Wiltshire and Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire — part of an ancient trading route that once stretched from the Dorset coast all the way to Norfolk. The chalky downland ridge that comprises the Ridgeway's western half is open to cyclists all year round, and provides a moderately challenging 42-mile ride.
